This is for all you teachers out there... what do you do with your time off from school? Work, stay home, lay by the pool...?

I always have an ambitious list of things to do at the beginning of every summer but usually end up tackling about half of them. During the school year we don't have time for big tasks, so my DH (who is also a teacher) and I try to do the big ones during the summer --- like emptying our basement of things that haven't been touched since we moved in 5 yrs ago! That was this year's project -- along with enjoying our two little girls. They are 3 and 20 mos, so lots of playing in the wading pools, going to playgrounds, and running about.

I've also spent alot of time on my computer and even got some scrapbooking done -- 4 hrs and 10 pages today!

I used to be a SAHM so the summers off are a blessing and I wait all year for them. I have a long list of things to accomplish too, but I only get half of them done.

And we vacation to WDW in the summers! That's the best thing I get to do.

Well let's see...

July- Took a course for my MEd every morning, took all the shutters off the back of my house and repainted them. (Have the ones off the front now and they are almost done too.)Painted a new screen door, looked after DS (5) which meant trips to the park and the wading pool. All the regular household chores that DH seems to forget how to do when my vacation starts :rotfl: and more things I can't remember.

August- Both on vacation this month. Finished repainting DS' room, put up a new border. Doctor, dentist and chiropractor appointments. Next week we leave on a 1 week vacation with my parents. Whew! I need a rest!!!!!

As soon as school was out we took a vacation to Disney. Since then I have been scrapbooking our trip! I also tutor 3 days a week. I tried to get things done around the house, but I haven't been too successful! I am actually excited to get into my room next week to get started. Only 3 more weeks!

I work at a summer camp for 4 weeks to boost my savings (most of that money is what funds our vacation or big household needs). Other than that, I go dribble money away at Target. Or the mall. Or TJ Maxx. Or Big Lots......

I get kind of bored sitting around the house all day every day, even though I should spend more time taking care of it!

It was my first year teaching, so I had to work this summer since I didn't get the 12 month pay option. I taught a summer program for Kindergarteners at my current school which was only from 8-12 on Mon-Thurs so it wasn't SO BAD. Still, now I have this week and next week off and then it's time to go back already. WHAT!?!?!?!? I don't even feel like I left! :rotfl:

Mom and Dad were both teachers. They either took classes for there masters degrees or we (mom and kids) came to Fl to visit family. My brother is a new teacher hired this spring by Kissimmee schools has already got a part time job at Disney working on the Great Movie Ride at MGM.

TRAVEL!! :woohoo:

Some of that travel is work related. As an Advisor for our school's chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America, I travel with some of my students to the National Leadership Conference. It is held in different locations each year, Including WDW (just think, 6000 high school students at the Swan and Dolphin for 5 nights!)
:scared1:  :faint: :drinking1

We go on trips (WDW and up north). I get a lot of reading done, DIS more and this year I have enjoyed going to the movies a bit more. I've become a POTC fan!! :teeth: pirate:

I'm not a teacher, but I am a bus-aide for special needs pre-schoolers. During the summer I am a semi-professional musician and that helps us financially. My dd Jessica (26) died 4/29/06 so I took a FMLA. This summer I am adjusting to raising my 3 year-old grandson and helping my 8 year-old ds dealing with a toddler all of the time. I have a huge list of things to get before the first day of school (9/6). I realized that summer vacation is almost over and I don't feel like I've done anything!

Oh lets see. I just finished a 3 week workshop on positive guidance techniques. I have been organizing all my stuff from the last school year. This seems to be taking forever. I has also started planning for the first few weeks of school and getting files etc. moved over to my new laptop. I have also been cleaning our basement and getting our laundry area cleaned up. I've been helping my dh dig a drainage ditch in the yard, remodel the bathroom and paint the bedroom. Not too many teachers that I know of spend all summer laying by the pool. But with this heat I sure wish I could.

I went to WDW for the first week of vacation. I taught summer school for four weeks and now I'm just trying to enjoy the last few weeks. I've done a few things around the house and I'm trying to get some things organized for next year. Normally I would be doing a lot of planning for next year but I don't know what I'm teaching so I haven't started yet. I normally teach eighth grade but one of our elem. schools that is K-7 is in year 5 of school improvement and if they have to move everyone around I could either move to seventh grade or up to the high school. On top of that I piloted a program last year that combined language arts and social studies into a double period class (I'm secondary but certified in both English and social studies) and my partner in the program left for another district. The girl they hired to replace her is secondary English and so she can't do the social studies part. So I don't know if I'm going to be going back to just language arts or just social studies or if I'm still doing both. Knowing my district, I won't find out until the day we go back.

(insert Twilight Zone music here) Yes, I was. I was on the squad from 97-2000 and was captain from 99-2000. That is so funny! I have been on here FOREVER and have never run into anyone who went there in the same decade as me :rotfl:

:grouphug: I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what you're going through.

As soon as school got out this year, DH and I headed to WDW for our 30th wedding anniversary trip.

We also follow Drum Corp shows around the country evrey summer! This year we attended shows in Toledo, San Antonio, and Atlanta. Next week we leave for a couple of days for Chicago, followed by a trip up to Madison, WI to Camp Randall for DCI FINALS! (Televised on ESPN2 Sept 5) Then it's back to OKW at WDW with DH and one of the DS for a few days.

I also took attended a seminar for a week in prevention of early learning failures to earn some CEU's and Professional Development hours.

I need to get into my classroom soon, but the heat has been oppressive and my building has NO a/c.

I have spent mine ripping up old vinyl floors and putting down a new vinyl wood looking floor, painted dinning roo and up stairs hallway, started refinishing kitchen cabinets, taking care of the yard, doing school training, and trying to spend time with my kids while all of the above is going on!! It's too hot to even pull out the inflatable pool!!

I have one month to go and I'm afraid I wont' finish everything I need to do!!

Well I used to teach summer school for half the day, and spend time with my son the other half.

After my second son was born, I haven't been back to summer school yet (maybe next year). So, since then I spend time with both kids, organize closets, dressers and toy chests, do my photo albums and let dh have a fantasy wife with dinner on the table every night and fresh baked goods!

Intresting Read! :goodvibes

I am in my third year of college - I am an Elementary Education major, so this was intresting to read and see what other teachers do during the summer to give me some ideas!

Thank heavens my DH does not read these boards, because you are killing me here! A fantasy wife with dinner on the table every night and fresh baked goods to boot -- How can I get me a wife like you?

This summer has been just lots of hitting Target and keeping the kids occupied.
