First days of school - which essentially this will be - you should teach procedures and expectations. Do you have your Harry Wong? It is your bible. Learn it. Know it. Live it.

NOTHING wrong with having short activities - such as writing letters - but the focus should be reinforcing the behavior that you desire.

The first few minutes of the first day of school make or break you.

Oh yes, Mr. Wong. The high priest of all things teaching. I got one of his books on Monday and have been reading it, along with Positive Discipline in the Classroom. I really like both. Sorta common sense type stuff, but it's nice to have it spelled out for you.

Turns out I don't get the kids until Monday, which gives me several more days to plan. I definitely won't do any activities like anysoldier until a Friday (our fun day). Day 1 and 2 (and maybe 3 and 4!) are all about getting to know each other and classroom rules.
