I've been reading the posts concerning budget tips and I noticed teacher's and nurse's rates mentioned - we just happen to have one of each in our family!

I was just wondering if anyone had specifics about the discounts or where we could get some information. I had heard about the teacher's discount, but we never followed up on it. Any help will be appreciated!! :)

Another question I have is a Medical Assistant eligible for the "Nurse Rate"? I do the job of an RN in our office, but I am just a MA. hmmm Mickey

This discount is only available at the Swan/Dolphin. These are not Disney owned hotels but are leased by Starwood Hotels and they have a similar discount throughout their chains of hotels. The current rate is $129.00 per night plus taxes for a standard room. Water view, jr. suites, club level, etc. are additional but are still great rates at these two hotels.

You need to call as far ahead to book your rooms as possible because this discounted rate isn't offered when the hotels are booked for conventions (Swan/Dolphin's main business, Disney is just a side line for them, lol). If you call four to six months in advance you should be able to get this rate during the peak periods for Disney, i.e. Christmas Holidays, Thanksgiving week and Easter Week. These are slow weeks for conventions.

I stayed at the Swan using this discount over New Year's and had called in May for ressies. They also have a $10 "resort fee" that is added on, and I hear is impossible to waive if you use this discount.

You also need to show proof of employment - I used my school ID and paystub which were sufficient.

You also need to call the Swan/Dolphin directly to make these ressies. 1-800-227-1500

you also register by calling starwwood 1800 ## good luck great place, great rates

Be sure to also sign up for the Starwood preferred guest points. You will get points to use for your next stay. Go to Starwood's web site and read the FAQ thread on the Resort board. My DH travels ALOT for work and I am a teacher. They transfered his Diamond level from Hilton and gave us the teacher discount. We were on Club level for the teacher rate! WOW! Swan is my favorite!:)

I stayed at the nurse rate and DID get the resort fee waived. I also signed up for Starwood before going, had no points on card and got a comp upgrade to choice of balcony or resort view. We chose resort view and had a great view of Spaceship Earth.

You can also book this rate on their website under "government employee". I don't remember if it was nurse/teacher/govt. employee but it was still the $129 rate. We looked into traveling down this March (but decided not to). The rates were listed on the web too! Pretty good rate considering what the rack rate was!!

Don't forget - you can check for all the discounted rates at the Walt Disney World Swan/Dolphin resorts right on the Dreams Unlimited site. You can get a real time look at availability and price compare between a bunch of different discounts (nurse/teacher/military/entertainment club/annual passholder).

There is no obligation to look at what is available, and you can reserve your room immediately by filling out the form and submitted a credit card over the secure server.

You can also supply your starwood number and receive all of the benefits associated with that program.

I hope this helps.
