HI There,

I am posting from work so I won't be able to check in until I return home this evening.

But I need some assistance from all the wonderful teachers who post on these boards.

Do you all receive SOOO much chocolate at Valentine's that you are overwhelmed with it all or do you enjoy receiving the chocolates?

My next question is what truly would you enjoy receiving from your students during Valentines? I am thinking about gft cards to a local coffee shop ...would you prefer the gift card or some nice chocolates?

Thanks in advance,
Have a gr8 day!
Vivian

Yes, I received too much chocolate because each kid would put a candy kiss or hershey's miniature in the valentines. ;)
I rarely got anything special other than a valentine card like they gave to the kids.
I don't drink coffee so I wouldn't necessarily want the gift card either. Sorry, I'm no help!:)

Thanks for your quick reply...

If I were to send along the large heart shaped containers filled with Lindt or Ferro Rocher? How would that be?

Thanks again,
Vivin

Slip a little note from you into your child's valentine, saying how much you appreciate the teacher. Be specific!

At least for me, a thank you like that goes farther than a gift.

It is a very rare thing to get any chocolates or gifts from students for V-day. I am not complaining, though! I teach in a low economic area of our city and I don't receive many gifts nor do I expect gifts. Like another poster wrote, I might get a Hershey kiss or a miniature if one of my students is passing them out w/their valentines, but I usually don't get anything else for V-day (again, not a complaint).

However, I do pick up something for DS's teacher (he goes to a school in our suburb). Nothing huge -- usually two nice note pads and some stickers. As a teacher, I use them and know that other teachers do, too! It seems like I'm always looking for note paper to jot a quick note on (whether it's to another teacher, my principal, the secretary or a parent). Those shopping list type pads come in so handy! Our AC Moore usually sells them for $1 a pack and I buy 2 or 3 and tie them w/a ribbon. I like to give the teacher stickers for the next holiday coming up (so, for V-day, I'd include some St. Patrick's stickers) b/c I know that I go through lots of stickers and it's nice to receive them instead of having to buy them!

I hope this helps you out! I would like to say that I'd love to receive note pads and/or stickers, a coffee shop gift card or even just a thank you note from a parent! Home made cards made by the students are also v. special, too.

1st grade teacher here....I will always choose a gift card, no matter what size, over more food (that goes for chocolate too!).

**Except one year, a mom gave me a Williams-Sonoma pancake mix, along with Valentine pancake molds...she knows I have kids at home. Finished the pancake mix long ago...but I still use the molds.

Another mom gave me a container of Williams-Sonoma hot choc. along with the W.S. Valentine marshmallows (expensive items).

I LOVE Williams-Sonoma!!
