How is your room coming?

We got a new HVAC system over the summer so we have only been allowed in for one week before school starts (next Tuesday). So far I have gotten a lot done, especially considering this is my first year in a regular classroom (I was an Art Teacher last year).

I have a couple of lamps and plants in my room which I think makes it look welcoming and home-like. My word wall and bulletin boards are up. I'm so excited for this year to start! :Pinkbounc (and nervous too... ).

My sister is a preschool teacher and her room is all ready. Very home-like! I love that. I love it when my kids' classrooms are like that. :)

We haven't even finished summer school yet! We also aren't give acess to our rooms until the day before school starts. Luckily I'm teaching summer school in the room I will have for the regular year, so I'm getting a head start!

We don't have access to our rooms yet -- won't happen until the week before school starts. Fine w/me. Doesn't take me long to set up the room, anyway! DH always takes a day off to help out and DS9 joins in, so it is done in no time!

There are loads of little things I wish I could be doing (making name tags, preparing folders, making copies, filling in my info. index cards, etc.) in my spare time, but I'm still waiting for my "final" class list to come from my principal!

I had to stop getting ready due to my surgery. We've been having meetings anyway, but all the others stay late to work and I have to go home to rest.

I hope to finish unpacking Friday, do my bulletins and posters, calendar etc. Saturday in time to be finished for Meet the Teacher Sunday. School starts Tuesday, meeting Mon morning, so Mon afternoon to polish up plans.

Heck no! They are also working in our building. My students start 2 weeks from today. I have been in once to arrange furniture. I moved to a different room so most of my stuff is boxed up. I made a little progress last week. In the next 2 years the building will be renovated so I am only going to put up my class posters (every year I give extra credit for class photos and make a big poster at the end--I have 18 posters now!). Luckily I have taught these classes before and it is just a matter of breaking out the proper files.
Since I teach seniors it doesn't matter much about bulletin boards, etc. For 17 years I've only had one small board that I put the calendar and menu on plus some stuff of my own. Now I have another small bulletin board and I have no idea what to do with it. I may put up some of my Shakespeare posters up. No way I'm changing it all the time the way you elementary teachers do!
Actually there is a rumor they may have to delay our opening a week or two because our building is such a mess and so is one of the elementaries, but knowing my district they'd rather have the kids in a half-done building than go one more day next June.

My principal called me 2 weeks ago to tell me she was moving me to the other side of the school. I had to go in the next day to start moving. It was kind of rough....didn't have boxes or anything. It took 4 custodians and I four-five hours, but we got everything moved into my new room.

Teachers officially go back on Aug. 21st. I've been going in every few mornings for a couple of hours, just to clean things up & put them away...not quite finished yet.

Yes!! I teach KG in PA and our get acquainted night is in a week and a half...I can't wait. Just about everything is done; I've been getting a head start on running off some paperwork.

No, and I'm a little upset about it! I am changing grade levels and classrooms this year, and the woman whose room I'm moving into still doesn't have all of her stuff out yet. I let a lot of time go by because I don't want to have a rocky relationship with her, but finally I called her up and asked if I could move her stuff out. She apologized and said she would do it, but as of yesterday the desk and cupboards are still full. I like to have things ready ahead of time, so this is very frustrating for me!

I'm almost finished. We were able to get into our rooms last Monday. I've been there everyday. Since I changed schools this year ALL of my things were packed. The only thing I have left to do is put nametags on the desk and put up my word wall. Our Meet the Teacher night is Monday and school starts on Tuesday.

I cant wait till I have to start getting a classroom ready! :cool1:

Two more years! :wizard:

School doesnt start for us until Sept 6th but I am going in sometime next week. I teach HS but still like decorating Bboard and all that stuff when the kids come in they seem to like it even thought they dont admit it. I am excited about Sept 15th pay day (LOL!)

LuLuLovesDisney where are you? Is your room ready? Are you day dreaming about your disney vaca in 2 wks.

I'm a sub but already have a 6 week assignment. I was told last week by the teacher that will be next to me that the teacher and para have already been in and set up the room. I will have 1 pre-K, 1 K and 6 1st graders who are on 3 levels. K is on the same level as the top 2 1st graders. So I will be planning for 4 to 5 levels. I'm already planning as we start on Monday.

I haven't even started yet. I had my room for summer school but I couldn't put anything up because they hadn't done any cleaning yet.

I also don't know what I'm teaching this year which is frustrating. I'm certified secondary English and social studies. I've taught both individually but last year they decided to try combining them into a double period class for eighth grade. I loved doing it that way but it took two of us to do. I had three classes and another teacher had three. All of the other language arts and social studies teachers in the building stayed with their subject. We got a lot of compliments from the superintendant and the curriculum director so we were hoping to continue the program this year. The teacher I work with decided to take a new position in a different district so I have no idea if the program will continue.

We also have a building in our district that is K-7 that hasn't met AYP in five years and we haven't yet heard about what the district is going to do. If they choose to move the teachers around I could get sent back to 7th grade or moved to the high school.

Unfortunately the way things usually go in the district we won't find out until school starts. When our school was condemned six years ago, we didn't find out until we showed up for our first teacher work day of the year.

I really really would like to be a teacher when I graduate from high school and go into college. I really praise high onto the teachers who put everything up in August/September and then put it all away again in May/June and always have a smile on their faces. Thanks :)

Almost ready. I teach preschool too. I have 3 b-boards to do yet and some more paperwork. Then I am good to go. :)

Nope, not yet. I teach preK and this is the first year that my classroom has been closed for the summer. I left things in very good shape at the end of the last year so I hopefully won't have too much to do. I can get into my classroom on Sept 1. I get that whole day and 1/2 of the following Wednesday. Tuesday is all workshops and Wednesday afternoon is open house. Students start on Thursday. I have done a lot at home to prepare so I just need to go in and put things in order. I'm excited, I love the beginning of the year. I'm looking forward to getting back, I miss my students.

Not me, I like to keep all the vacation time for myself! We dont have to go back until next Tuesday and I know other teachers who have come in, but I have never been one of them. I teach HS so this is never a problem, even when I have moved rooms. They give us 4 days to get ready, usually one full day just in our rooms. Last May I left my room pretty much how I want it, I just need to finish the boards.
