Teachers: Do you give your students gifts?

My 38 kindergarten students are getting a book from Scholastic (used bonus points), a box of 16 crayons (got them for .25 at Target at a Back To School sale in Aug.), a glider, small bottle of bubbles and kazoo (from Oriental Trading) The stuff will be in one of those cello bags that come 25 to a package from Dollar Tree.

Yes. I got them each a small Christmas activity book, a pack of crayons, and a candy cane. They are a group that may or may not get anything else, so, I do feel compelled to get them something.

I'm not a teacher but have an answer.
I work at Barnes and Noble and a teacher(I think 4th grade) came in and bought 23 Easy Sudoku books for her students.

I'm a teacher in the UK and I am going to WDW for christmas. I have told my class (10/11 year olds) that I am bringing them a gift back from there. They are really excited about that!!

I give my kids some candy and an ornament. I sign and date the ornament.

My daughters teachers usually give each student a Scholastic book. They use their bonus points to purchase these and it makes a great gift and costs the teacher nothing. I think books are an excellent idea for anyone to give.

When I was still in the classroom and my class was self-contained (meaning I had the same kids all day for all of their subjects), I did buy gifts (something small for around $1-2 each - usually a paperback book or something of that nature, holiday pencils, etc.).


When I switched to departmentalized classes (teaching the same subject all day to different groups of kids), my student numbers increased to 150-180 students per day. That eliminated the gifts.

I ordered 25 books from Scholastic, each child is getting:

A Scholastic book (I personalize each on the inside cover)
a box of 24 crayons
a gluestick
a holiday pencil
some small candy

All but the book is being packaged together in a holiday gift bag (25 for a dollar at the dollar store)

I found an assortment of cute little beanie baby-like stuffed animals at Target, and bought one for each of my students.

I teach pre-school, all of us teachers 5 pitched in and bought the kids something. We bought markers, a dreidel, some chocolate coins, a cute stuffed animals, bubbles, a deck of cards, a cute little book, and a bag to put it in. Hope they like it.

Every year I do this and the kids are great at keeping it a secret from year to year! (This is the first year I've done it after the Polar Express movie came out. I hope it's still as good!)

They bring in a bathrobe and mug on the last day and set them out before going to recess. While they are at recess, I quickly fix hot chocolate for them

When they come back in, I ask them to put their bathrobes on, get their mug of hot chocolate, and come sit on the rug.

Then I read the book The Polar Express. At the end, I let them know that I have an "in" at the North Pole and was able to arrange to get very special reindeer sleigh bells like Santa uses. Their eyes grow wide and I pass out these huge silver sleigh tied with red ribbons. It's really great!

Last year one of my former 3rd graders who is a Junior in high school now, introduced a song at the choir's Christmas concert by recalling her experience in my class with the Polar Express. I was so honored!

I've had students who are in college now tell me they still have those bells!

I am so stealing this idea to use w/my Kdg. students!!! Where do you get your sleigh bells!? About what size are they!?

For my Kdg. students, I am giving them ea. a Scholastic book, a Play-Doh filled ornament (I found them at AC Moore - it's a plastic ornament that opens up w/play-doh inside), and some candy. I'll also give them all a new eraser and pencil.

The only year I remember getting anything was in 4th grade (around 1985 or so). Our teacher got all of us 3 pencils in a little case with our first and last name on them. She died a year later, but I still think about her from time to time, and I remember the pencils. I thought it was great!

i dont do anything for christmas because i go to all of the classrooms, but in the summer i have my own class and i always get them thigns at the end of the summer

This year, my assistant and I are paying to take the class to see The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. A local theater is showing it for school groups for only $1.00 a ticket!
