teachers- do you give thank you notes to students?

My son got a thank you in the mail this week from his teacher for his little Christmas gift he gave her. AND when we came home today from my parent's, there was a quick message on the phone from his teacher, wishing him a Merry Christmas, and that she's looking forward to seeing him in January! Isn't that the sweetest?

I have been a long term sub in a 7th grade class since mid September. I received many cards and gifts from my classes which I definetly plan on sending thank you cards.......I just have to get to the school's office this week to get their addresses.
