Teachers aid, Lunch aid, Recess aid

Hi!

I am not sure about this myself, so I am wondering what a Teachers aid, Lunch aid, or a recess aid might make per hour. Does anyone know exactly or an average range?

For good aides...not what they are worth! Pay varies according to State/District, job history/years as aide, education, requirements (general class, special needs, etc).

Is this a union position? Our school aides are in a union so starting wage is more than minimum.

It will vary soooo much. But IMHO, I'd go for the class aide. You will be able to work with kids more personally and it can be very rewarding. Lunch/recess is when a lot of kids are on their worse behavior.

In my town, the teacher's aides are union members and paid according to union contract. In CT they have to pass some sort of competency test/certification process.

Not sure of the salary, but I know that from things I've read in the local paper they do not get any health insurance benefit or paid sick days.

In my district, the aides are in a union (only the teacher aides). I know that the recess and lunch aides make $10/hour, but the teachers aides, it all depends on how long they've been there. But, it isn't enough, that's for sure. I also believe that it depends on the state because state wages for the education field vary greatly.

Never knew there was lunch and recess aides. In all schools I have worked in (IL & FL), support staff have manned the lunch room and teachers or classroom aides have done recess duty. My SpEd class had a few students that needed more supervision so my aides would alternate sitting with my class at lunch and then take lunch when we went back to the class. Aides are union positions (depending on states) and can take scheduled breaks and duty-free lunches.

Im a para educator. I work at a second chance school, I worked at the regular district school before that. I make little over $10 an hour. Im contracted through a ed. service center that mans over 20 + districts. I do get a pay increase each year, not much though. Pay is based on education if you have just a GED i beleive the pay starts at minumum wage.

I like my job I transfer a student to and from school. I drive a fleet car, lunch is paid for. Not bad at all, except for the drive 1hr 30min one way.

dh, sil is lunch aide, $10 an hour, permanent part time, so they pay her no benefits. She had to pay out of pocket for fingerprinting. She loves it.

I am a recess monitor. And i disagree about the kid's being on thier worst behavior.
They are playing so they are more open, Because it's free play you really do not have to be cross with them very often.
The only downside to my job and it may be differant in "other Districts" BUT.. we are outside if it is above 18 degrees for 3 hours. I can tell you that gets old really fast. I am more than ready for Spring!

I absolutely Love my job. For $10 an hour it's not for the money. you have to be threre becuase you adore the kids.
I m such a geek I miss them on the weekends or school vacation.

Coincidentally, our local (Pennsylvania) newspaper just had an article about this exact topic, noting that even in our region of two counties, the pay (for a teacher's aide) varied drastically, from a low of minimum wage to over $15/hr. Some districts offer full-time work, with benefits, and others offer only part time....with no benefits. Sadly, it was noted that one district is paying aides $1 less per hour than they were making (under their union contract) back in the year 2000! So they dropped from around $10/hr to around $9/hr.
