Teachers advice please

Thank you Dawson5

I suggested that to Dd a couple of days ago. Our school combines 3 towns and this girl has never been in class with DD before. She only has her # which she has been texting her and is not even sure of her last name at least that is what she told me.

I have no choice at this point to let her figure it out. I have done everything I can.

I am thinking maybe after all is said and done I will email the teacher with my thoughts on group projects. I will keep you posted on the outcome :goodvibes

This happened to DD when she was in middle school. There were 4 in the group and DD and two of the others did all the work. The 4th never showed up or contributed anything. While DD didn't want me to email the teacher, I did it anyway and told the teacher in the email that DD really didn't want me to say anything. Teacher emailed back thanking me for letting me know. Her solution was to ask non-doer a lot of questions about the project that he didn't have an answers for. He ended up admitting that he wasn't involved at all. This way she was able to make sure he got the grade he deserved without involving the other three partners.

Thank you Darcy,

Again I keep going back and forth. i will know by the end of the day how the project is coming along, I guess i will decide at that time.

I am starting to hate this group project idea. :scared1:

I don't envy teachers their job. The problem with assiging joint projects is that it assumes each partner is motivated by getting a grade or doing a job well. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Some children just want to slide through and don't care about their grades as they have different values and goals.

Good luck OP. This is definitely a life lesson for your daughter. Tell her how proud you are of her work ethic and commitment to her education. It will serve her well in life!
