Hi all...a few weeks ago I told you all about a job I applied for as a TA at the school here...so I did not get the FT job that I wanted, that went to a certified teacher who has special ed training, I have neither, I have an AA in Early Childhood...So anyway they did offer me a TA job at the high school level for half time, 20 hrs a week, that is ok, no benefits, less money but I love the school (my kids go to the elem and I am a graduate!!) and the pay per hour is really GREAT!! I can not complain...my question is now this...I did not mention my already paid for several weeks ago trip to WDW yet. Maybe I should have in the interview, maybe I should have when he called to offer the job to me but I did not...I was nervous and scared. I want to talk to him in person about the situation. My question is, since I am not getting paid for time or days off how does that work??? I can understand if I was FT the rules due to paid vacation days, however I do not apply to that situation so I am now thinking I can go ahead and ask for the 4 days unpaid of course...I don't want to sound ungreatful or that my job is less important but in all fairness to me I am not getting any benefits anyway!! Can you all weigh in on this situation?? I guess we could reschedule and had I got FT I would have but we have paid for and are getting free dining and I just do not want to redo my WHOLE trip for 4 hr a day job...NOT THAT I AM NOT HAPPY or very blessed I am of course having no previous school experience in this grade level very happy they are giving me the chance to get my foot in the door...any ideas on what I should do??

Thanks

I start Monday for teacher in service!!! :goodvibes

I would check what attendence policy is for TA's in your area. When I was a TA at out school, we had a policy that if you took off more then 2 days in a row we needed a Dr's note. Also we could not take our personal days back to back. Since our jobs were only considered 10 month positions we were expected to take our vacations on off months. Same rules go for my husband who is a certified teacher in the same district. I would definitly check beofre you agree to take the postion unless you are willing to give up your vacation. Good luck though. I so wish we could go during the off season, but being we are teachers that will never happen

I am not a teacher, however, I work in a special ed school and do the hiring for TA's. I would notifiy them immediately. Sometimes people are more than happy to work with you. However, your position is supplied by school funds and not having you there could put the school at risk if something major happened and the staff/student ratio was not correct. I have to juggling on a regular basis to make sure there is always coverage in each classroom. I would talk to them ASAP. JMHO.
