Hi! I hope someone can help me, because my head is going to explode from so much and at the same time no information . I'm from PR and planning to relocate in the United States. I have various states, but not sure wish one is the ONE:confused:. I'm a single mother with 2 daughters so I want a place that is safe.

The states that I'd been searching are Virginia, Georgia, Connrcticut. My first language is Spanish, so I will prefer some place where there are latinos comunities.

Please, please help me. Can some one advise me wich states is the best :confused3?? I want to stay in the East Coast. Oh, I'm an elementary teacher, and been searching for jobs, but since I have a job here, I don't want to apply until I'm sure where I should go.

Well, I will appreciate any insight!! Thanks!!

i would suggest that you research any state you are considering and find out

(1) what the licensing requirements are for teaching in that state, and

(2) what the job situation is for teachers there currently.

i'm suggesting this b/c while i don't know what the requirements are in the states you are looking at, the state i'm in as an example-has some time consuming "hoops' to jump through for someone with so much as an out of state teaching certification-if a person has one from another country then it adds more steps (including a full college transcript evaluation to determine if their educational credits are acceptable) to get that certification in order to qualify to even be considered as a teaching applicant. the other issue is that many states are having massive teacher lay-offs, so it's in your best interest to realy look to what the job market in teaching is like in a given state (and don't be misled that absent a certification, private schools are a major hiring source. some private schools require higher educational standards for teachers than the public schools, and right now there are many private schools closing their doors due to the economy).

good luck in your search for information-it's a huge move so do all the research you can ahead of time.

I agree with the above poster's suggestions. I am in Western Ma., and my district has pink slipped all non professional status teachers the past two years. Look on SchoolSpring for job postings- see what you come up with for availability. I know in my area Holyoke and Springfield schools are usually hiring.
If you have good credentials a district may waive the certification requirement temporarily at hiring, then you can get the proper certification once you've been hired.
Good luck to you!

Also every State is safe , yet every State has areas/communties which are not safe.....

North Carolina also has a large latino population. I teach in Durham, NC, and we are about 15-20% latino at my school. Same as anywhere else, there are safe areas and not safe areas and some school districts are better than others.
