Teacher Present from the class....ideas?

lg3, I would go with the generic Visa or Amex card unless you know she likes a particular store, I love the Body Shop but seldom go to Bath and Body Works.

I am so glad this was asked - I am a room parent for DD's pre-school class, and we are trying to determine what to give the teacher - who is fantastic. We were thinking of a gift-card, but really wanted to make sure she spent it on herself. We were thinking about one to a Bath & Body shop, etc. Do you think that's okay, or do you think the teacher would like a generic one instead?

Semi OT: The room parents and party helpers are chipping in on it. I hesitate to ask all the parents in general because it is a private school, and parents are constantly being bombarded by requests for donations/fund-raising activities, and the like all year long. :confused3

Hi! I'm a teacher....I would prefer a generic gift card. It is so thoughtful of you moms to do this! I would let the other parents in on it though (at least let them know about your gift). They will learn about it & some may wonder why they were not included or at least question, "What else have we not been let in on?"

This is soooo sweet. I teach high school and by this time you get very little than groans from your students. :rotfl:

I LOVE the gift card tree though and I am thinking that we will do that for a good friend of mine who is retiring...It's great because we can get a variety of stores and variety of values...

question for those that have done this: Do you identify who gives what gift card?

I was just thinking maybe a card that everyone that contributes signs so that those that can't spend as much don't feel awkward???

What do you all think about a gift card to Macy's? I know one of the teacher's assistants just got married and they are setting up their first apt/home, and are on a tight budget. Do you think she might prefer a gift card to somewhere like Target instead?

Another (former) teacher here - go with the generic gift card rather than Macy's or Target. I can't tell you how many gift certs. I received to stores I never frequented. Some expired before I could use them.

We are doing Christmas Money trees in both DD and DS classes. I thought money trees were kind of tacky but a parent last year really wanted to do it. I turned out pretty cute. I had about 150 in crisp clean $20, $10 and $5 dollar bills. The bills were the ornaments that I folded in pretty ways and tied with ribbon. Then I wrapped it in cellophane. I am doing it again this year.

I also love the giftcard tree! I will remember that for next year.
