Does the Swan or Dolphin Resorts offer discounts to teachers? Somebody mentioned it but I can not find the thread again. I have already booked this trip but would like to know for the future.

Call the resort at 888-828-8850 and request info on code TEACH. Rates can be as low as $129, although that will only be during the least busy seasons. You'll need to bring some type of proof of profession (pay stub, school ID, etc.) at check-in or the rate won't be honored.

Sorry for 'stealing' your thread :o

But does any of you know if you have to be a teachter in US to get discounts? Or can a Danish teachter get discounts too?? :D

That is kind of crazy since we are working during the least busy seasons. That is why it is not busy the kids are in school. Thanks for the info.

No doubt. I think the rate is tied together with the nurses discount, so it's possible nurses can get more traction out of it (I'm not married to a nurse though so not really sure. :confused3 ).

One other thing to keep in mind is that the Swan and Dolphin are convention hotels. So a busy time for them doesn't always coincide with a busy time on the school calendar. ;)

Plus their daily resort fee.

To get the teacher rate - either book online with TEACH or call the S/D directly.

When you arrive you must bring a current pay stub from where ever you teach students or a current teacher ID.

If you do not have one when you arrive - you will be charged rack rate, which could be :furious:$300 a night higher than your teacher rate :(

Also the reservation must be in the teacher's name.

To get Starwood points the teacher must have the Starwood card.
I,DW, have a Starwood card, but DH, the teacher, did not have his own Starwood card. I had to get one for him to earn Starwood points.
Live and learn.
We will earn about 5000 points when we complete our Dolphin stay this summer. Good for a $50 gift certificate from Starwood sponsors - such as GAP & Brookstone.

It has been a few years since I've been able to use the teacher discount, so things could have tightened up, but this has not been my experience. I am the Starwood Gold member but DW is the teacher. I make the reservation but add DW's name to it. She presents her school ID at check-in but I present my credit card so the points go into my account and we get my gold benefits. It's been no problem for us.

I value Starpoints at 2.5 cents each and have found the best redemption opportunities are for their hotels. Then again, points expire if an account doesn't earn or redeem in a 12 month period, so redeeming for gift certificates at a cent per point are certainly much better than the alternative.

Oh, and Starwood is on the verge of announcing a summer promo with registration set to open up on spg.com on May 1. You'll have the potential to earn much more than 5000 points for your trip.

Are the Dolphin and the Swan the only resorts that give teacher discounts? My husband and I are 30+ year teachers so can not go until summer, but we stay at other Disney resorts so we can get the dining package.
:confused3

I'm a RN at a State hospital. I don't get a check stub. I have direct deposit. I do have an ID badge with my name, picture, and the hospital's name on it. Would that work? Also I believe the Swan/Dolphin also offers discounts for state employees. Since my hospital is a state hospital (although it's in Texas) would I qualify for that discount and if so are the discounts the same or is one better than the other?

As far as I know the Swan/Dolphin are the only resorts that offer the Teacher's or Nurses discounts. The Disney owned resorts offer discounts to military personel and I believe travel agents and airline employees, but not to teachers or nurses.

You can still call the swan or dolphin and they will change your res to the teachers rate
They are the only hotels on Disney that I know that will do this.

If anyone is looking to stay off property, The Gaylord Palms also gives a nice teacher discount. :)

Before DVC, we use the S/D discount pretty frequently!

My wife is a teacher and she gets the park tickets at a substantial discount by purchasing them through her teachers union.

I'm not sure of what the rate is, but its something like a weeks worth of tickets for the price of 3 days (and it applies to everyone in our group).

Yes, I just purchased tickets through my teacher's union last month and recieved a five day hopper ticket for my family for the price of a three day ticket. :yay:

I have direct deposit but get a statement each pay period showing what was deposited and also what taxes were paid. That should work if you get that. I don't think they will take an ID since that doesn't show you are a current employee.

A little off topic, (but maybe not since I have a ressie at Dolphin using the teacher discount). Does having a Starwood membership ensure an upgrade if one is available?

Only if your membership status is Preferred Plus, Gold or Platinum.

(Linking your SPG account to a AAA account will give you Preferred Plus status.)
