Hi, Any ideas on what to write in a teacher appreciation letter? We were asked to write one for my son's kindergarten class. It is harder than I thought it would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I think it is so important for parents to let teachers know how much we appreciate them! My oldest DD is in 1st grade now, and I wrote her teacher a letter at the end of kindergarten to thank her for everything she did. I basically just thanked her for giving my DD such a great start, by making her LOVE school from day 1. I pointed out how much DD had grown (academically and socially) throughout the year. I also mentioned a few specific projects the teacher did that were really "above and beyond" what was expected.

I'm sure a short, heartfelt "thank you" is all that is really needed! Ask your DS what his favorite thing is about the teacher and share that with her as well. :thumbsup2

I would ask your child what his/her favorite things are to do in school and I would make sure to quote that in the letter. No doubt since your child is in kindergarten, it was a transition for the whole family and you can thank the teacher for helping to make it go so smoothly.

I am sure it doesn't need to be super lengthy, just personal.

I have written to my dd's teacher how much I appreciate the fact that she makes my dd love school, how much my dd loves her and how I know that my dd is in good hands. I am a teacher and I keep a file in my cabinet with a smiley face on it in which I keep letters from parents. When I need a pick me up I pull it out and read them. Those letters mean so much to me. Anything that you can say from the heart is worthy.

Focus on 1-2 things that stuck out in your mind. Maybe the fact that the teacher speaks to everyone in the morning when they arrive and again in the afternoon when they leave.

Was there ever a time the teacher made you or your child feel really special? Even if it is as trivial as asking how you were doing on a day that was absolutely horrible for you? Was your kiddo struggling during a couple of weeks and the teacher marked a really big smiley face on a good paper after the "drought?"

I work with 2 blind kids (for the last 3 years) and late last month I received an unexpected letter from the mayor's office. I'm thinking... oh crap! What did I do? Even DH was confused.

Turns out my kids turned my name in for excellent service above and beyond the "call of duty." I personally don't think I've done anything spectacular over the years, I don't do anything I wouldn't hope someone would do for myself or my kids, but it meant something to them. Coming in to open our room early, staying over 15-20 minutes at the end of the day so they could finish up... are just a couple of the things they mentioned as the reason why they submitted me for award.

I am honored to work for these kids, with these kids as a mentor and a friend. Teacher appreciation doesn't have to be something monumental, just something that made you guys feel good.

Thanks everyone! He really does have a great teacher, so I am sure the letter will come together nicely.
