My DS's teacher has been wonderful this year. She has gone above and beyond helping when math got tough (she came in 40 minutes early to help DS with his homework in math and she's not even his math teacher). She has been super sensitive to my son. She is one of those teachers that are one in a million (no offense to other teachers). So, I want to express my gratitude for her over the top efforts to let her know that we really appreciate her. The budget should stay under $50..I just don't know what to get her. Any ideas?:confused3

A really nice note....Free. And if you do want to go with a gift, a gift card to a local restaurant.

I'm a teacher, and I love gift cards. Momentos and chachkis are nice, but you can only use so many of them before they end up in the yard sale pile.

I give gift cards to local restaurants because most teachers have in service days for a while after the kids leave for the summer. I figure it's a nice treat to pick up lunch, they have always been very appreciative.

One year my DD's teacher specifically said she loves Barnes & Nobles and last year my son's teacher said she loves to get ornaments from her students for her Christmas tree and remembers each child by them, she's been a teacher for 30 years, I can only imagine what her tree must look like

I am a teacher and I must admit I love gifts! Boy, I don't hold back, do I? lol

Honestly, gift cards are wonderful, but some of the best gifts I've received have been testimonial letters to my boss. Many times, they are copied and sent on to HR and placed in my permanent file. :)

we tend to give a gift as a class, but my twins teacher this year was their looping teacher, and was their brother's looping teacher, so we've had her for 4 straight years now. she will be missed! I plan on giving to the class gift, but also plan to write her a hearfelt note.

Gift card to Barnes and Noble or any other bookstore, so that she can get stuff for herself, or for the class library.

What is a "looping teacher"?:confused3

Dh is a teacher. He'd like most a lovely letter, cc'd to the principal. If you want to give an actual gift, a gift card to a place where he can buy school supplies would be great, as we end up paying a ton out of our pockets for them.

My sis is a teacher and she loves to get letters of thanks from the kids (they are middle school kids, so that doesn't happen too often) and as far as actual gifts go, she appreciates anything a kid gives her, but she really likes getting gift cards. Most of her kids know she is crafty, so several have gotten her cards to Michaels or Hobby Lobby. She likes cards to office supply stores, too, so she can use them for classroom extras.

A gift card is great - but please do a Visa/Cash type one. I've been a teacher for 17 years and truly do not want any more Barnes & Noble, Dunkin Donuts, or Macy's gift cards. I don't drink coffee or eat donuts, I don't buy books, and I don't shop at expensive stores! Restaurant or Target cards are ok, but a Visa card is really the best.

I agree with a PP about gifts going into the yard sale pile. I have sold or given away so many bath sets, frames that don't match my decor, coffee cups, candles in a scent I don't like. The thought is much appreciated, but after so many years.....

And a note is also wonderful. I have a portfolio for my teaching career and one whole section is cards and letters from parents. They are truly priceless!!

a looping class loops 2 years, at least in our school that is how it is done. so the kids have the same teacher for 2 years in a row.
