TD bank change machine without an account?

Does TD bank still let you use their change machines even if you don't have an account there? We have done this in the past but I was'nt sure if they still allow it. I have 2 big coffee cans filled with change that I would like to cash in for our trip. I don't want to use the coinstar and pay a fee and I don't want to spend days on end rolling coins. I do not have an account with TD Bank. On this last trip (May '12) they charged me a 6% fee. Not sure if this is across all branches.

The TD Bank near me also charges a fee, I'm not sure if it's 6% as well or not? We used to have a TD Bank acct and it was free with an acct. I recently went with my mom and they did ask her for her acct # before handing over any money.

If you can't find a bank to do it for free, use the coinstar All the ones here (at both grocery store chains near me, at least), let you feed your coins into the coinstar machine, then get a gift card for that grocery store for no charge. Then you just trade your grocery money with the gift card, and you have cash for your trip!

We roll our coins, it doesn't take very long. Once you get into it, you can roll up several in about 30 min. We take them into our own bank, and they are happy to get them.

You can also take rolled up coins into a casino and exchange them for bills without a charge. Nobody says you have to gamble!

I got around the fees at TD Bank by opening a vacation account. There are no monthly fees and I think there was no min. amount needed, though I had $200 to start. I go by every so often and deposit my money saved from coupons and cash my coins in.

They did close the account after a year and sent me a check for the balance. When I went in to ask why they said that is normal since it was a vacation club,but they were able to reopen it for me.

Another option is to open a savings account in your child's name,but you will need their birth certificate for that.

Check with the bank where you have an account, especially if it is a large branch. You may have to just give them the coffee cans and deposit slips, and one of the tellers will take it to a back room and run it through their machine and then credit your account.

I wish that this was a practical idea for my bank. My bank will only accept a very small amount of rolled coins...they'll take 10 rolls per day, max. So unless I stay on top of it and get in line to make a deposit every time I'm in the grocery store (we have an in-store branch), I'd never get all my coins deposited. It's kind of a pain.

I don't have the time or patience for rolling what I think may be about $200 of coins, I called my bank and they don't have a machine. I called another bank in our town (Valley National Bank) I knew they had a machine they charge 5% if you don't have an account there so thats what I will do. Thanks for advice, Linda

Hi there, I work at TD bank.

This may very by location but our branch does NOT accept rolled coins. Reason? Some people are dishonest.

We do charge 6% for non-customers. But. It's super easy to become one. Open up one of our 3 free savings accounts. They include; Club saver, Holiday, or Young saver accounts. All have non minimum.

I thought if you took gift cards at the coinstar machines there was not a charge. I think they charge almost 10% on cash.

I have an old checking acct with $200 at td just for counting change and for getting gift cards which are free of charge if you have an acct there.

Living just outside of Toronto, I do have a Toronto Dominion account. Just the same, when I travel in the US, if I need cash, I go to Walmart and get cashback. It's a lot easier for me!

I have the young savers accounts at TD. Initially, I opened them up at TD because of the passport books. I like that the kids can bring in their own books and see the transactions in them. The coin machine is the added bonus and works great with the kids. It has a smaller counter and they put in the coins independently. Also, they are one of the few branches in our area that do not charge that nasty $3.95 fee for a visa/mastercard gift card if you have an account. In addition, they always donate small gifts to our schools for fundraisers or field day. I have opened other accounts due to these little things. Love TD.
