TCM to change the Great Movie Ride

I think this is a perfect partnership and should assure that the Great Movie Ride stays in place for at least five years and probably longer. It also will help to make the Chinese Theater the symbol at the front of the park that it should have been all along (and was originally).

I'm not concerned with changes only coming to the pre-show and finale. I expect this is the first step and allows them to make updates and then do something further down the road. I'd love to just remove the on-board cast member and have it fall more in line with Living with the Land. It might actually improve the ride because you aren't dependent on the cast member in the middle portion to be engaged.

I do hope they eventually make some updates in the middle, but they wouldn't need to be extreme. I love the Alien scene, so I wouldn't touch that part. They could swap out just a few parts with other films, enhance the sound system, and it would feel new.

I also am thrilled by having such a targeted sponsor that fits perfectly with the attraction. I've thought that Disney should be doing something similar with EPCOT and focusing on companies with an eye to the future to update Imagination and Energy.

i'd like some classic Live action Disney films like Petes Dragon to be incorporated.

See, I don't have a problem with them using classic movies for the great movie ride, it's better than trying to use all modern movies. My problem with the ride is its a bore. The idea of "ride the movies" should be fun and thrilling, not a near static experience. Not saying the ride needs to be fast paced, but per se, but with the technology moving away from animatronics and more to 3-D media, this is the perfect opportunity to make for a more immersive ride. Of course my idea would cost big bucks, and at a guess as to what they are talking about here that ain't gonna happen.

You sound like a universal kinda guy here, Pete

I don't have a problem with the old style animatronic rides...I can see bad 3D mass production at any multiplex...

But:..rides like great movie, small world, pirates, etc should be classic but available rides these days...not anything frontline.
Problem is they have gone along time with little to no frontline additions.

The mine train is not one...it is big thunder light with little theming and no innovation. Those cars rock about as much as Michael Bolton.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2. If I am not mistaken, I believe TCM owns most of the MGM movie catalog so there will be a lot of possible changes.

The GMR has always bee a great attraction, but it does indeed need a techo and general upgrade now!

This should be a perfect match and most reports are saying the front and end changes are the only one announced as yet..........time will tell what changes are made later.

Lmfao.....I literally almost fell off my chair..

In terms of the ride, I actually love this ride. Ridden maybe 20 or so times at least. Although some changes would be nice, but please keep the premise, and save some new stuff for other areas....Thanks.

"Universal guy"? No need to get insulting LOL!

No, I am not saying to necessary eliminate animatronics from this ride (though perhaps my post implied it). I just LOVE movies, and the best movies give you thrills and chills and make you feel emotions. And to me NONE of that comes through on this ride. And I'm not a "I want explosions and transforming robots" at all. Some of my favorite movies are represented in that ride. Casablanca is probably in my top 10 all-time. Yet the scene they show from that might as well be a poster. Same thing Raiders of the Lost Ark, YAWN.Even the gangster taking over the ride never really feels like you are "in" the movie, just on a lame theme park ride.

The only sequence that really works for me (almost) is the Wizard of Oz scene, where they actually succeed at making you feel like you are part of the movie, almost like you've interrupted a scene. That and the final movie scenes give me a piece of what I want out of this ride.

Unfortunately, I am not sure how you really successfully do any of this will the current ride vehicles. But the ride as exist feels like mostly a slow walk through a wax museum. I think I've only ridden it three times ever, and DD has never been on it in 8 trips because she doesn't want to and I don't care enough to fight her. I guess next year we will finally push it on her to see the changes, and maybe check it out before further changes (hopefully) come.

I may be in the minority but I actually like the ride just as it is. I don't mind the change but hope it's for the better.

Aliens can definitely go as can the Tarzan section. Maybe re-imagine Indiana Jones differently considering Disney owns the license to that franchise now too.

Change #1 - Stop using female cast members to play the part of the "Gangster" that takes over the ride in mobster scene. It's just silly.

Two things:
#1. You're right.
#2. Am I correct they are not doing the western portion of this 'show' anymore?

No, I rode bandit the other day.

Also, why can't ladies play Muggsi? It's the 21st century, get over it.

Not my favorite ride but I still like how it focuses on classic movies. I don't get the comments on how classic movies are not relevant to younger viewers.
I grew up in the 80's - 90's and my favorite movie is The Thin Man which came out in 1934. Has been my favorite since I watched it in the 90's. Younger audiences can love classic movies, they just have to be exposed to them.

DD (12) laughed her head off last month when TMC played A Night at the Opera (1935).

What can they add that will stand the test of time? Reservoir Dogs? Jurassic Park (oops wrong theme park), The Sixth Sense? Scream? Would love to see Edward Scissorhands. I consider those to be classics (or future classics ;). I would hate to see trendy movies that will have to be replaced 6 months after they were released.

The changes to the queue and the end sounds great - the ending looks so grainy! If they do some changes to the actual ride I hope they keep some of the classics they depict or even change them for other classics.

Mugsy is a deese dems and dose guy. I've seen some real good male actors in this role,(not all) and very few women actors. "Mugsy" is supposed to be one of the gang out of the old movies. While there were women criminals, any of them in the old films were not dressed as one of the guys. If Dorothy was a live character in the Wizard section, should a guy play the role?
This has nothing to do with women doing the same as men, it has to do with the correct way to cast the part.

+1. EXACTLY. Wanna put a woman in this scene? Fine, but she needs to be a dame - a gangster's moll. Not a woman in a zuit suit...

Loved the Michael Bolton comment, too funny!

Bonnie Parker, Stephanie St. Clair, Opal Long, Helen Gillis, Ma Barker, Pearl Elliott, Marie Barker, Virginia Hill, Arlyne Brickman, Evelyn Frechette...
