I have a reservation for dinner at Tchoup Chop during my vacation next week. I've been reading some bad reviews on here about it now. I thought it was supposed to be a really good restaurant. I don't want to waste my time and money for a less than desirable meal though. Can anyone give me their thoughts on it? Should I still go or pass it up for someplace else? :confused3

I've been there three times in the past 18 months and it's been superb each and every time. We like it better than Emeril's at CityWalk. The decor is pretty and soothing, the service very good and the food just excellent if this Asian fusion flare fare is your thing.

Don't worry. it's a great place!

Anothere positive vote here also. Great food and wonderful service whenever we've been there.

I wish they'd move it to NEPA so I could go more often. We have to settle for a similarly different restaurant called Oyster in Wilkes Barre. That one is very good, but Tchoup Chop is GREAT! I even got my 11 yo DS to try the duck there. He loved it and has had it a few times since.

I had an amazing meal at Emeril's and I'll be there for my birthday dinner in 2 weeks..

I mean I wasn't as impressed with everyone else's entrees as I was with mine. I ordered the Tchoup Chop Clay Pot which comes with a Fish of the Day.. the Fish that day was Mahi Mahi. It was the best plate of fish I've ever had.

But I'll be going back. There's really no guarantee whether you'll like it or not. The best you can do is hope!

We ate there for the grand opening and have been back every trip since! Its one of our favorite restaurants and the kids really look forward to it too. The service is outstanding and the food is inventive and very delicious.

nerdboyrockstar,
I had the clay pot twice and once it was with mahi mahi and the other sea bass, amazing! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. I went over the menu again last night and it does look interesting. I think I'll stick with my original plans and try it out. Hope I'm not disappointed. :thumbsup2

RUDisney - love your dogs! I have a pug also. He's a sweet little guy. pug:

It is awesome!

Me and my family swore that We each had our own waiter/waitress!

Everytime u go 2 the bathroom, they come back and refold their napkin lol.

ITS AWESOME! :cool1:

If you're having doubts, you've obviously already read my review. I agree with the others that you should try it for yourself to see what you think. If nothing else, we've had a few good laughs about the experience, since dining there last week. :teeth: You will either love the food or have a reason to laugh with your family. Win, win, I'd say! :p

We went to Tchoup Chop in July 2004 with 3 kids; DS11, DS9 and DD8. We actually celebrated DD's birthday there. It was spectacular! We had the nicest wait staff, excellent food and an overall great time. The wait staff *never* let your drink go empty - it feels like they refill after you take a sip! My kids still compare the service we had at Tchoup Chop with every other "fine dining" restaurant we go to now. They will say, "This is a nice restaurant, but not as nice as Tchoup Chop, because I had to ask for more water here. I could never get my glass empty at Tchoup Chop!" But they did think that the kid's filet mignon was very small, tasty but not enough. My daughter compared it to the kids' cheeseburger at Cheeseburger Cheeseburger in Ft. Lauderdale. If you've ever had the kids' cheeseburger at that place, you would understand.... :-)

The service we had our 1st visit was much better than last week. Like I mentioned in my review, I think we must have gotten a team that was new to working together. They weren't efficient at all. We had no complaints about the service the 1st time, but didn't like the food either visit. The exceptions were the crab cake appetizer, which was very good, & our DS loved the Filet. He orders off the adult menu though.

Lump me in the minority with Tarheelmjfan. We ate there a few years ago and had a terrible meal and service there.

Service was so bad that the couples at the 2 tables next to us each asked to speak to the manager. From what we could tell, these people were not associated with each other - just two sets of very unhappy campers. The manager came over and they reiterated their disappointment with the staff. One couple ended up so disgusted that they asked for their check early and just left. We had a similar experience to theirs, although we just ate what we could and left, not bothering with the manager. He had already had an earful that evening.

The food was terrible also. It was so salty, it was pretty much inedible. And I like salt. In fact, I love salt. I put salt on everything. I eat the salt off pretzels before I eat the pretzel. My favorite candy is a double salted black licorice from the Netherlands that makes people who have never had it toss it across the room as their mouths pucker. So, for me to say something is too salty, means it is SALTY!

BTW - I had the Hawaiian style dinner plate and DH had the NY strip.

We are definitely not strangers to fine dining (in fact, one of our weaknesses) and we love Asian/Polynesian style food. However, the night we were there (8/11/04) was a very poor night for Tchop Chop. Horrible service and even worse food.

Due to all the favorable reviews of Tchop Chop, I am hoping our evening was just an aberration to their usually fine menu and service.
