TCD's Pre-Halloween 2010 Weekend Warrior Trip Report

We went to the Halloween party on 9/23 and loved it, but we missed seeing the Headless Horseman! We ended up seeing the last half of the parade twice. DD14 was bummed.

Glad to see some decorations at the Fort. When we were there (9/18 - 9/26) not many campers had decorated their sites, or even put lights on their awnings! For most of the week, we were the only cabin in our loop (2800) that was decorated. We had not been to FW at this time of year, nor had we stayed in a cabin before. Do cabin people not normally decorate?

Sounds like y'all made the most of your weekend! I look forward to reading more!

This is almost like being there.... :happytv:

SO I take it you didn't like your spot...and LOVE 617.... :thumbsup2

I've NEVER been camping at the FORT.....I KNOW I KNOW....I will as soon as I get me a motor home type thingy...

I do need to check out the best spaces thread...

Please keep them coming....

Forgot to add....My horses are barefooted....and seem to be ok....there is a TREND in the horse world that shoes can hurt and break down the hoof...happy hooves...happy horses...

HH:)

nice decorations :thumbsup2

great report as always; really gets me pumped for our Halloween fort trip! If you see a huge party during the FL-GA game... ignoring the trick-or-treaters :confused3... you found us! :rotfl2:

The TCD gang has not camped at FW since July 4th weekend, 2010.

.....

It might be me, but it seems like there are more loungers on the beach than there used to be. Good place to watch the fireworks:

FWOctober2010016.jpg
I think they may be the old loungers from the pools.

The only thing better then being @ Disney is getting to enjoy another TCD Trip report. I am jealous we live so far and can not get there alot. Keep up the great trip reports they keep me going till we get back.:)

The Headless Horseman's horse is one of the Perchiron's in the barn. I can't remember if it's John or Bob.

I recognize your golf cart from my family's trip a couple of weeks ago. It has yellow seats, right? With a yellow FW sticker? I believe it was in the 300 loop.

Nice TR so far.

I can't believe we are going to miss the great TCD by one weekend. I always hope we will run into you one of these times. I had the pleasure of meeting magicbus and Donnie the past few times. Once again you have surpassed yourself again with this report. We have one day and counting till we arrive and hit the MNSSHP on Thursday. I need to take more pics this time. Keep up the great work as always

Great pics - great report!

Quick question: How do you think crowd levels at Halloween (at FW) compare to other busy times of the year (summer, Christmas)? I was looking at your pic on the docks and we were there in July and never had more than a dozen people on our boat at a time.

Just what I needed - a new TCD report! Can't wait for more!

Leslie

Now if we were on Facebook, I could click the "Like" button! :thumbsup2

Looking forward to reading more, TCD!

I was at the halloween party on 10/1 too, I was a jungle cruise skipper (or kilimanjaro safari driver... no patches so either or would work)

Also went to fort on sunday to see the rail car, but not much exploring since I had to meet up with friends at epcot... great report so far!

1. You missed the Headless Horseman!!!??? Your poor DD! I think you need to get back to the Fort pronto and fix this injustice immediately!

2. No cabin folks don't decorate so much. But, if anyone is going to be in a cabin Halloween weekend, there is a category in the site decorating contest for cabins. Based on who won last year, it wouldn't be hard to win that award.

This is almost like being there.... :happytv:

Wow- The Headless Horseman is on the Disboards?

How does that work out for you?

You know, with the no head and all?

I imagine in makes it hard to read posts?

Yes, 617 is the best site in Fort Wilderness!

If you ever get that motor home type thingy, make sure to request it.

nice decorations :thumbsup2

You're still a Gator, right?

I imagine things are pretty gloomy up around UGA lately?

I think they may be the old loungers from the pools.

I would say you are right.

TCD you crack me up, actually I really did LOL

Well thanks.

I'm no DaveinTN, but I try.

My pleasure.

Really.

And, I thank the Good Lord often that I am lucky enough to be able to pop over to the Fort for a weekend when the need arises.

The Headless Horseman's horse is one of the Perchiron's in the barn. I can't remember if it's John or Bob.

1. Yes, the horses used by the HH are kept at this barn. But, generally in a stall not accessible by the public. Khan is the name of one of the horses.

2. That is not my golf cart. A friend lent it to me. I am not surprised you have seen it around the Fort. It is there more than I am.

Don't feel too bad. It's hard to meet TCD.

NBD at all meeting Donnie.

He's always there.

In fact, I ran into him on Sunday right before we left.

But Magicbus, he's a bit harder to find.

So you are doing well.

Have a great trip!

I am sure we will meet up one day.

Great pics - great report!

When Halloween falls on a weekend, as it has for the past three years, the Fort will be 100% full. So, it is one of the busiest times of the year.

If you only had a dozen or so people on your boat at a time, then you must not have been heading over to the MK in the evening. In the evenings, the boats tend to be full. Especially if there is a special event going on at the MK, like EMH or MNSSHP. Also, when the Hoop Dee Doo lets out (three times every night), the boats will be packed, and there will be long lines at the dock. Even so, they do a good job moving people, and even when it's busy, we have never had a bad wait for a boat leaving the Fort.

Just what I needed - a new TCD report! Can't wait for more!

Thanks. More will be coming right up. Just as soon as I finish with these witty comments.

I heart these TCD photo essays. :thumbsup2 Good stuff!

Thank you. I try.

Facebook?

What's that?

Sorry, I don't remember seeing you at the Halloween party on 10/1.

But, it was a very good one!

We had a much better time than we did last year.

And, what glorious weather!

amazing, I must do a really great job at not being noticed by random people... unless they know me.:lmao:

Awesome!!! Cant wait till Halloween! The Golf Cart is reserved!

Continuing on . . .

It is still Saturday afternoon.

And we are looping.

There were two LSU fans camping at the Fort this past weekend.

Just two.

This one:

FWOctober2010314.jpg

And, a guy on the 900 loop who yelled out something at our Gator Nation flag as we looped around. I gave him a nice Gator Bait!

What is up LSU fans?

There's usually a lot of y'all at the Fort.

Why are you hiding?

Are you hiding until after Saturday, October 9th?

Here's a Gator fan on the 600 loop.

I like the plan of putting the Gator up on the roof.

But, he needed a better tie down method:

I know some of you are wondering if there will be a TCD Real Man of Genius Award from this trip.

I mean, it was such a short trip.

And, there wasn't much time for the nominating and selection process. And there's the voting and the judging, and debating. And then sending the results to the accounting firm for tabulation. It all takes a lot of time. But, don't worry. . .

Fortunately for us all there was a Real Man of Genius right across the street in the 600 loop.

Here he is:

FWOctober2010319.jpg

Mr. Tent on a Premium Site- we all salute you! And congratulations on your award! Notice that this fellow's tent is almost on the sidewalk, and adjacent to the main drag, as well as equidistant between two bus stops. Pure genius!

We know that the Fort Wilderness Kennel is no more.

Gone.

Poof!

Well, what do you think they are going to do with the old building?

Gift shop?

Tavern?

DVC sales center?

Why don't we head out to the parking lot and find out?

Here we go.

The automatic gates that used to be here are now gone:

FWOctober2010320.jpg

All of the Kennel signage has been removed.

And now it looks like this:

FWOctober2010321.jpg

There are signs in the windows.

Just for you, I hopped off the cart to take these photos:

FWOctober2010325.jpg

FWOctober2010326.jpg

So, bottom line: the horse people are taking over.

These are the new automatic gates. This is where all of the buses enter and exit now, and guests can leave and return through here as well:

The barriers that used to divide the parking lot are all removed:

The TCD gang planned to take a Haunted Carriage Ride Saturday evening, October 2nd. This would be just the second night of Haunted Carriage Rides for the season. We wondered if anything had changed since the last two years, which have basically been the same.

The signage has not changed:

FWOctober2010330.jpg

In fact, my super hero powers of deduction give me the sense that this is actually a sign that they recycled from last year:

FWOctober2010331.jpg

Don't ask me to explain why I think the sign is recycled. It's just a hunch I have. And, I have learned to trust my hunches.

People always ask about whether there are regular wagon rides in October. After all, once the air starts turning cool, it is a great time to ride on a big wagon through the Fort. And, the wagons could allow folks to see all of the great decorated camp sites. Sounds like a great idea, right?

Well, too bad:

FWOctober2010333.jpg

No wagon ride for you.

Take the Haunted Carriage Ride or nothing.

That's the deal.

The HCR people have a monopoly for the month of October.

Is it just me, or are these horse people getting a bit too big for their britches?

Our looping took us out by the 300 loop canal in the late afternoon.

It looks like there has been quite a bit of digging across the way:

FWOctober2010334.jpg

FWOctober2010335.jpg

Call me crazy, but this pile of yellow stuff looks exactly like a turbidity curtain. We learned all about those when the 600 loop was expanded. They string one of these along the shore line to keep the dirt out of the water. I wonder what the heck they were digging for over there?

FWOctober2010338.jpg

FWOctober2010339.jpg

The bridge was blocked off this afternoon:

FWOctober2010336.jpg

And I know why.

They don't want folks walking down the path of the Haunted Carriage Ride. Castmembers put out the props each afternoon.

I do have some good news to share - the canal that adjoins the 100, 200 and 300 loops is a little less slimy these days:

FWOctober2010337.jpg

I know what some of you are wondering.

Did TCD get a Giddyap and Go on this trip?

What do you think?

TCD was at the Fort.

If TCD is at the Fort, there will be a GAG consumed.

If not more.

So, the plan for Saturday night was to eat at GAG, watch the Gators beat Alabama, and take a Haunted Carriage Ride.

Two out of three ain't bad.

If you are a GAG fan, be sure to check back.

I have something very disappointing to report.

There was a change in our GAG.

I hope it was just a one time thing, but I am afraid that it wasn't.

To be continued . . .

A TCD TR! How did I miss this?

Apparently I have been a Dis-slacker of late!

I am now all caught up and lovin' every minute of it!

I'm glad you suggested the PP request 617. He'll love it!

Couple of weeks ago, DH was put on notice that a Halloween Fort trip is officially on the table as a quick trip.

This TR may seal the deal.

Thanks.

Kim
