Continuing on . . .
It is still Saturday afternoon.
And we are looping.
There were two LSU fans camping at the Fort this past weekend.
Just two.
This one:
And, a guy on the 900 loop who yelled out something at our Gator Nation flag as we looped around. I gave him a nice Gator Bait!
What is up LSU fans?
There's usually a lot of y'all at the Fort.
Why are you hiding?
Are you hiding until after Saturday, October 9th?
Here's a Gator fan on the 600 loop.
I like the plan of putting the Gator up on the roof.
But, he needed a better tie down method:
I know some of you are wondering if there will be a TCD Real Man of Genius Award from this trip.
I mean, it was such a short trip.
And, there wasn't much time for the nominating and selection process. And there's the voting and the judging, and debating. And then sending the results to the accounting firm for tabulation. It all takes a lot of time. But, don't worry. . .
Fortunately for us all there was a Real Man of Genius right across the street in the 600 loop.
Here he is:
Mr. Tent on a Premium Site- we all salute you! And congratulations on your award! Notice that this fellow's tent is almost on the sidewalk, and adjacent to the main drag, as well as equidistant between two bus stops. Pure genius!
We know that the Fort Wilderness Kennel is no more.
Gone.
Poof!
Well, what do you think they are going to do with the old building?
Gift shop?
Tavern?
DVC sales center?
Why don't we head out to the parking lot and find out?
Here we go.
The automatic gates that used to be here are now gone:
All of the Kennel signage has been removed.
And now it looks like this:
There are signs in the windows.
Just for you, I hopped off the cart to take these photos:
So, bottom line: the horse people are taking over.
These are the new automatic gates. This is where all of the buses enter and exit now, and guests can leave and return through here as well:
The barriers that used to divide the parking lot are all removed:
The TCD gang planned to take a Haunted Carriage Ride Saturday evening, October 2nd. This would be just the second night of Haunted Carriage Rides for the season. We wondered if anything had changed since the last two years, which have basically been the same.
The signage has not changed:
In fact, my super hero powers of deduction give me the sense that this is actually a sign that they recycled from last year:
Don't ask me to explain why I think the sign is recycled. It's just a hunch I have. And, I have learned to trust my hunches.
People always ask about whether there are regular wagon rides in October. After all, once the air starts turning cool, it is a great time to ride on a big wagon through the Fort. And, the wagons could allow folks to see all of the great decorated camp sites. Sounds like a great idea, right?
Well, too bad:
No wagon ride for you.
Take the Haunted Carriage Ride or nothing.
That's the deal.
The HCR people have a monopoly for the month of October.
Is it just me, or are these horse people getting a bit too big for their britches?
Our looping took us out by the 300 loop canal in the late afternoon.
It looks like there has been quite a bit of digging across the way:
Call me crazy, but this pile of yellow stuff looks exactly like a turbidity curtain. We learned all about those when the 600 loop was expanded. They string one of these along the shore line to keep the dirt out of the water. I wonder what the heck they were digging for over there?
The bridge was blocked off this afternoon:
And I know why.
They don't want folks walking down the path of the Haunted Carriage Ride. Castmembers put out the props each afternoon.
I do have some good news to share - the canal that adjoins the 100, 200 and 300 loops is a little less slimy these days:
I know what some of you are wondering.
Did TCD get a Giddyap and Go on this trip?
What do you think?
TCD was at the Fort.
If TCD is at the Fort, there will be a GAG consumed.
If not more.
So, the plan for Saturday night was to eat at GAG, watch the Gators beat Alabama, and take a Haunted Carriage Ride.
Two out of three ain't bad.
If you are a GAG fan, be sure to check back.
I have something very disappointing to report.
There was a change in our GAG.
I hope it was just a one time thing, but I am afraid that it wasn't.
To be continued . . .
