Hi, i travelled with TCD from manchester on 30th(well it should have been) July this year. We were delayed for 27 hours. The first three hours of the delay we were sat on the plane. Then we were sat in the airport for another 3 hours before we were told the flight wouldnt be going until the next day.
I understand and accept faults can happen and i have no problems with that. Well, other than the pre flight tests not being carried out before the passengers are on board the plane.
What i did have a problem with, was the complete and utter lack of organisation after this happened. Nobody told us anything. It was like a game of follow the leader, except there was 500 people instead of 5. There appeared to be one member of TCDs staff trying to get 500 folk from the airport to hotels. Also, this was the same day the incident took place at glasgow airport, but instead of telling people that busses werent allowed to the front of the terminal, they just told us we had to walk to the bus station without any explanation. With all luggage in tow, which had to be collected again.
This was no problem for my party as we knew what had happened, but a lot of people didnt. A lot of families had young children, who by this time were very tired. Also, when it was announced that 200 folk would be put into a hotel in the airport, it was like a stampede getting to the gate. rather than say it would be disabled, and familes with children under x age, it was first come first served.
we were eventually put into a hotel for the night. We were told we would be picked up at 5am to return to the airport. This was fine as it meant we would really only be losing half a day of our holiday. What actually happened was everybody got up and ready, walked out the hotel room to find a note outside all the doors saying pick up time was changed to 12!! This resulted in loads of folk being up, showered and dressed at 5am for mo reason. Again, there was folk who had dragged young kids out there bed. If the note had been put UNDER the doors then everybody could have just went back to sleep instead of getting dressed!
Another plane had to get flown in to take us as the problem on the first plane(one panel of lights wouldnt light up) hadnt been fixed. We had a party of 11 flying and two out of the 11 seats on the original plane we had were broken. In comparison to other airlines ive flown with, the planes themself are shambolic. The staff arent very pleasant, you have one choice of inflight entertainment, and the in flight food is a joke.
On the way home, we had no delays, however we were on the original plane with the broken seats. And yep, the same two seats were still broken a fortnight later. We actually said to the staff when we were on this plane to begin with and they didnt seem bothered in the slightest.
Despite all of this, they are the cheapest flights i can find for next year, so im probably going to be flying with them again as im not too bothered about how enjoyable a flight i have. If the flight is a major part of your hoiday and you dont mind paying extra, i would avoid TCD.
