Taxis to go from resort to resort

I've seen people recommend this several times and have a couple questions.

Are there taxis just waiting at the hotels like there are at hotels in cities, or do you have to call for one and then wait until it shows up?
If you do need to call, how long does it typically take for one to get there?

We will be a party of five (three adults, two kids). Do they let you put five people in a taxi?

I have seen taxis waiting out front of the Beach Club and Boardwalk. If you ask bell services, they will call one for you.
Friends of mine called a taxi service from the phone book when they were down in December. They need transportation from Caribbean Beach to Wide World of Sports. The taxi picked them up, but got lost getting to WWOS. It is pretty much right across the street from CBR.

Ask a CM outside the hotel to call a taxi. In general, there will be taxis waiting at the resort, but perhaps in a holding location you can't see. I've never had to call a taxi in the sense of asking them to send a cab I had to wait for.

I always call the night before and ask to have the taxi at certain time for a pick up. We give the company our name. We go down to the pick up spot about 10 minutes early and the cab is usually there or only a couple of minutes away. Works perfect every time.

really, there are taxis that probably literally live on property. i have NEVER had a problem with just going to outside the front of the resort and asking someone to call me a cab and getting one within 5 minutes. the CM will let them know how many and where you're going. if a van is needed, you'll get it.

Yes, there are always taxis in front of the resort. You can fit 5 in a regular taxi, and they also have taxi-vans available.

Checker Cab Co. (Mears) is contracted with Disney World to provide cab service within Disney World. Cabs are almost always available at your hotel. If not, one will be dispatched from the nearest hotel on Disney property to your location.
