Is it an option to use a taxi within WDW? We are staying at the AKL, and might like to do this on occasion instead of the bus system. Would this option save time? Is it fairly reasonable? Thank you!

Absolutely! We took the cab on 2 different occassions during our last stay. Once from the Poly to CS and the other time from Epcot to CS. We were so tired coming out of Epcot that we just didn't want to wait for the bus. Both times that we used the cab it cost $8. Would we use a cab again? Absolutely!

Yes!!! We use taxis at least once during every trip. Saves time and is worth every penny.!!

I agree with the prior posts. I would also encourage you to use taxis for transportation to/from the airport. Taxi is less expensive than shuttle for famalies of 3 or more, and in many cases less than limo/towncar. Taxi can meet and greet just like towncar and offer great service for less money.

Now back on the subject, Checker cab is contracted to provide cab service throughout Disney, and these drivers will provide excellent service to you during your stay.

......are taxis usually waiting everywhere (like at the parks and resorts) or do they need to be called?

If they need to be called, how long is the wait before they show up?

I know that at Epcot they were waiting at park closing. I don't know about the other parks. Also, when we came out of the Poly Luau they were waiting.

You can go to any bell services station at the resorts and they will call a cab for you.

But, how long is the average wait for one to arrive? Just curious.

I have never waited more than 5 minutes for a taxi. At the resort if one is not waiting I just ask a valet to call one. At the parks they are often waiting also. We use them to quickly get to a ps. It saves so much time.

Using a taxi service to return to your resort from Downtown Disney is the ONLY way to go! It costs around $15, but oh so worth it. I have never gotten back from DD in under an hour--ever! The time includes from the time I walk to the bus stop untiL I'm delivered to my resort bus stop. The same goes for the ride over. At least on the ride over I know it's going to take that long and plan accordingly. When it gets late in the evening, I definitely don't want to wait and get back an hour after I am ready to leave--especially when I could walk faster--if there was a walkway to the MK resorts, that is! :D The inefficiency of the transportation to DD (and TL for that matter) is incredible to me since it's such a shopping haven--think of the money that could be made with efficient transportation.

Our family would head out that way more than once a trip IF we could do it without a 2 hour r/t time loss.
