Yeah I admit I don't get out much where we need taxis. For the rare one around WDW (Dinner back to hotel, etc) What does one usually give for a tip?
Thanks

There is a wode range of opinions on this one. I'm not saying I have the one "right" answer, I'm just telling you what I do.

Just like at a restaurant, I base it on about 15%-20% of the fare. HOWEVER, I often round UP to the nearest $5, or at very least the nearest dollar.

Personally, I would never use coins in paying taxi fare. For example, if the fare was $12, then 15% would be $1.80. That total would be $13.80. I just wouldn't be caught dead giving the driver exactly $13.80. I might give $14 but generally speaking I'd give $15 and not think twice about it.

As I think more about it, I round up to the nearest $5 if the fare + tip would be more than half-way between $5 increments. In other words, if I calculated fare +tip to be $18, I'd usually just give the driver a $20 bill rather than dig for exactly $18 or ask for $2 change from a $20.

But that's just me.

not sure i understand this exactly, but it sounds like what i do. and i am not exactly sure what that is either.

Thanks CleveRocks. That's pretty much what I've done in the past, just not very often. I only anticipate the need for a taxi for one possibly two segments. I know to take a variety of bills since a friend was there and had an issue. She had a short taxi ride under $10.00 only had a $20 and the driver said he did not have change. I don't want that to happen either.
Kirbsam, really LOL, I know what you mean. CleveRocks made perfect sense. He really did. Now I'll know what to do when presented with the bill without any big calculating effort! LOL

thanks you two!:)

I have a similiar question. What do you tip the service which picks you up from home and takes you to the airport? There is the luggage and there will be six adults.

I'd tip the same as above - 15-20%, plus at least $1 per bag, perhaps $2.
