Taxis after park closing

We leave on Saturday for our first trip to DLR and we are sooo excited. I know we will want to stay in the parks later in the evening, but I am concerned that our hotel shuttle won't run as late as we'd like or may get too crowded and we miss it. The hotel (Doubletree) said they run one hour after park closing. I was wondering if there are taxis readily available at the entrance that you can take back to your hotel? If so, any guess on cost? We are at Doubletree on City Drive. Thanks in advance!

I don't know about cost to your hotel, I'm not sure where it is but they are plentiful!! Just exit the parks and walk towards Harbor, instead of walking down the shuttle pick up/drop off walk to the left of that, then walk between the bus/CM shuttle areas to the taxis. My directions suck so just ask the CM at the security gate as you exit the esplanade, they can point it out for you. But honestly, I think you'll be able to take your shuttle, you shouldn't need that long after the park closes to finish up.

Pixie is right. There will be a long line of taxis outside DLR on Harbor. We took one once and it cost $10 about 5 years ago. HTH!

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine told me that the cab drivers that were waiting outside Dl. after closing, were charging $100.00, regardless of how close your destination maybe have been. I have a hard time believing that. Can anybody support or deny this claim? TIA

I would call the taxi company ( yellow etc.) and ask them the price of a taxi from disneyland to your motel. then when you get in tell the cab driver. .. I called to confirm that the cab from disneyland to motel is .......... such and such.
I did this as they were cheating me when I was there 4 years ago. I called the cab company and told them what the taxi driver ( and cab number) was trying to charge me, she sent a car right away and told me to always tell the cab driver what the fair was quoted and make sure he sticks to it!

We NEVER had a taxi driver even try to charge us that much! To the Peacock a decent driver had the fare at about $5, the sucky driver who didn't listen to us and talked on his phone the whole time had the fare up to $7, he didn't get much of a tip, the total was $7 and change, he got $8.

I don't really see the benefit of a taxi over the shuttle except when the shuttle may be full or we are wanting to go in between the times the shuttle is running. Would there be some other benefit to paying for the taxi over the shuttle that I am missing here?

We are used to long shuttle/bus rides in WDW, so it probably wont seem much different to us.

Well I guess we got honest drivers then, we did the taxi thing for 3 nights.

The shuttle rides shouldn't be that long but the shuttles are small and riders are plentiful. We prefer to drive ourselves or stay close enough to walk for these reasons. The only shuttles that haven't been bad experiences have been the CCI shuttle and the shared shuttle that goes between the Hyatt, Crowne Plaza & Sheraton hotels. And even those will be packed and standing room at nite, with adults who won't give their seats up to kids, handicapped people or elderly people. Taxis are simply another option you will have.

He got taxis quite a few times last year, rather than the ART. We were staying at Residence Inn near Target. The cost was around $10-15 each way, including tip, there was three of us.

There were heaps of taxis available at all times.

We're planning on going next year, and if we stay back at RI which we really liked, we are planning on taxis again, and budgeting accordingly. The ART was great when there wasn't a wait, but when there was it was painful, especially given at times it was over 30 minutes.

Why no car - we're used to driving on the left, and neither of us believe we could handle driving on the rhs.

I have relied on the ART for the most part, but have used a taxi or two when it was needed. I can usually suck it up, if the taxi is the only option besides a few mile walk. Especially considering, I had usually just spent a considerable amount of time already walking in the parks.
