I'm going to WDW in a few months and was considering a taxi b/c it would just be DD and myself & seems it might be cheaper than a towncar. I'd hate to waste time with Mears. My DH doesn't want us to do this b/c he is concerned for our "safety"...his words not mine. What are others thoughts? Are they really cheaper?

For my one way taxi ride from CSR to the airport it was over $50 with the tip. Not very cheap.

safetymom is right. A taxi will cost you the same if not more than a town car would. If you are by yourself, the cheapest way is Mears..but it is not the most convenient.

A towncar will be fixed price (except for the tip). A taxi's meter will run if the driver takes the long way, will run extra for getting stuck in traffic, etc.

I think a taxi "could" be cheaper. But it could also be more expensive - its far too easy for a driver to take the long way.

most of the car services will throw in a grocery stop!

Which will more than pay for the car rental with the money you will save in the park on water and food.

P.S. The Publix is right next to a liquor store (that's how i talked my hubbie into it)I grab the food and he grabs the drinks;)

I have called a few taxi co I found online for Orlando. Most quoted about $75-85 round trip which really isn't much less than a towncar. I expected to be at least $20 less! My husband is not really happy with a taxi idea due to safety concerns. He insists if something happens that at least he has a company to call who should have a driver on file who picked us up. Where as with a taxi there is no record of who's car we get into and who knows! He always suspects the worse! I'm sure we would be fine but it may not be worth the aggrivation of arguing with him. And for only $10.00 more I'd like to have somewhere there with a sign with my name on it when I come down the escalator!

For pmj4002:

Do taxicab drivers offer trips to frequently travelled destinations (e.g. airport to a particular Disney resort) at flat fares? Are drivers permitted to do so by their companies?

I often suggest that parties arriving at the airport without any reservation shop around for town car services too.
