Taxi to Universal

Quick question. We are planning on staying on Disney property and taking advantage of the shuttle from the airport. However, we would like to go to Universal one of the days. Is it cheaper to rent a car or take a taxi to Universal? If rental car is the cheapest, where on Disney property can you rent a car for a day.

Hi I don't know about the car rental but we were advised by our shuttle driver that the flat rate for Florida taxi's is $20, and he says a lot of taxi drivers will charge you $50, but if you tell them you were advised of the $20 rate than you'll be ok.

You can rent a car from National or Alamo at the Dolphin hotel or the WDW Car Care Center (and I think the center has a shuttle bus).

We were in the opposite situation (Staying at U/S and wanted to side trip to Disney). We found that it was the same price to rent a car for 1.5 days as to just get a taxi to Disney and back to U/S.

We ended up rented a car - we were also able to use it to make a grocery store run, grab a couple of things from Walgreens, do some stuff on the strip and go out for a cheap breakfast before returning the car the next day.

We took a cab for 2 from MGM to PBR for about $30 + tip. (one way)
