We are heading home to BWV in June. We will be flying and my husband does not want to rent a car. We would need quite a few groceries since we are traveling with 3 teenage boys for a 6 day trip. He believes taking a taxi to the nearest BWV grocery is our best bet. I have researched all the online and shopping services but promised him I would check out this option. Which grocery is closest and most reasonable to the BWV and how much would a taxi cost each way?

How are you getting from the airport to BWV? Many of the limo services offer a 30 minute grocery stop. Bell services will refrigerate them for you if your room is not ready.

If you want to wait until you get there, the closest would probably be the Publix at Premium Outlet Mall. You may want to checkout the Screen Door Store at the Boardwalk if you are looking for basics, they are expensive but it might be worth it to save taxi fare. I've never used a taxi but I've heard it is $10 to the Shrine Church near Premium Outlets.

DVC also offers grocery services, they are expensive but again might be less than taxi fare. The lists are on the member site.

Another option is to rent a car for that day only, Alamo/National has dropoff service at the Dolphin.

We took a taxi to a publix from OKW one year . It cost about $50 with the wait time etc. We thought it would be a quick trip, it wasn't. The next time we rented a car for a 24 hour period for $ 35 and did our shopping and ate off site for that night. We got the car through MS and picked up and dropped off at the Car Care Center, It was very easy and we had complimentary van service to and from the CCC. We would do that again.
We also doi the Grocery stop with our town car service but this was a restock.

We did a lot of research on this subject as we will not have a car either. We found that using one of the town car services was our best bet. They are more reasonable if you have a small group of people heading from the airport to a disney resort. Plus they also stop at a full size grocery store for you. If you need names of town car company's just let me know.

"Alamo/National has dropoff service at the Dolphin."

Debbie...do you know if I also can rent a car from the Dolphin ??

You can keep the car for 24 hours and only be charged 1 day. So if you pickup at 10:00am, you have until 10:00am the next day to return it.

We just got back from OKW and BWV. Tiffany Towncar stopped at Publix on the way from the airport for 1/2 hour. Unfortunately, the store was packed! I spent 25 minutes at the deli counter, while my DH and DGS 13 got the rest of the items on the list. Of course it was Valentine's Day, President's Week and also the Daytona Races!!!

We bought enough groceries for our 4 days at OKW, with the intention of taking a cab to shop when we were at BWV. When I checked at the Bell Services area, the lady there was unsure, but looked at the posted list and said it cost $30 She remarked that she would take us, but the price did not seem right. When I asked if the cab waited for you, she said that she did not think so and I would have to pay both ways.

We decided to buy from the BWV store for our breakfasts and ate in the restaurants for our other meals...One night, My DGS and I walked across to the Yacht Club and shared a "Kitchen Sink"!!!

We took a cab from BWV to a grocery store (not sure which one) a few years ago. I thought it would be a quick trip and worth the $20 or so not to have to rent a car. Not only did it come to over $50 but the pressure of running around an unfamiliar supermarket while the cab driver sat out front was enough to make me sick. It was our dollar and we could have taken our time but just the idea of the meter running and the driver out there tapping his fingers..ugh. Never again.

The next trip we decided to rent a car for part of our vacation. We reserved a minivan thru National and picked it up at the Swan (or is it the Dolphin? I can never remember). We dropped it off there a few days later and simply walked back to BWV. Piece of cake.

Since then we've decided to just rent a car at the airport and keep it for the duration of our trip. After so many vacations relying on Disney transportation it took a while to get used to the freedom of being able to go 'anywhere, anytime'. Love the free valet parking...life is tough. ;)

I've read on the boards about Albertson's having a Fax ahead service...you place your order and then they pull it..so when you stop for your grocery stop it is ready...haven't called to inquire about it....

We did this...town car service from FLTours - excellent!!Thanks Andy!!- prefaxed grocery order to Albertson's, Hwy417 and SouthOrange Blossom Trail...order was ready to go, in & out in 10 minutes. They ring it it right at the Customer Service desk, so no waiting in checkout lines :)

Just make sure you indicate size and quantity, and whether store brans substitutions are ok. Put your name and car service on every page you fax, as well as date/approx arrival time. They will have your order bagged and ready to go at the Customer Service Desk, and they will allow items to be addded to the order. Frozen food is bagged and kept separate...I'll post the numbers...

Here you go..

First of all thanks everyone for your replies. So far it looks like renting a car for the day is best way to go. HOWEVER- Albertson's looks like a good deal also. Are there prices much more than publix and do they charge you for the shopping service?

I want to be as responsiblity free as possible-after all it is vacation!

and no idea whether comparable to Publix or not..I went to the company's website and, just for selection purposes, created a grocery list from there. I just used the Dallas/FW store and "browsed the aisles":D This gave me a general idea of what might be available in the MCO stores... I figured for the ease and convenience of someone else picking and bagging my groceries, I wasn't going to be upset if a box of cereal was a few cents more...:sunny:

Enjoy your vacation!! We sure did!:sunny:

Can anyone give me directions to the Publix at the outlet mall? We're heading the BCV in 8 days. WooHoo!!!
THANKS!!!
:p :p :p
