This is something in Nassau that does look interesting and we might like to go see it. But with a daughter with mobility issues, walking is not an option. So what about a taxi? Is that a good option and about how much does one cost to get there and back?

It's not far, maybe 5 blocks each way; so i expect a taxi won't be too expensive
Agree with that, and it is somewhat hilly, so avoid the walk to get there if you have mobility issues. The 66 steps are also steep, look for photos on TripAdvisor to judge if you think you can climb them to the fort.

There will be locals offering various "assistance" at the bottom of the steps. Don't know if he's still around, but a dependable and knowledgeable one is James, who spent a good portion of his life in NYC. For a few bucks, he'll escort you up the steps to the fort, explaining things along the way. I've also run into him working on the water taxis.

If we do this can the taxi drop us off at the top of the staircase. My daughter might be able to do the stairs going down.

Yes it could drop you there. Look at the some photos or videos on YouTube first to check if you think she could make it down, they’re not the straightest of stairs and it can get busy.

Look at the some photos

The stairs are fairly steep, rough (uneven surface). They can also be slippery depending on the weather. Our tour stopped at the top and we walked down the stairs where our van was waiting for us.

I almost tagged you @PrincessShmoo wondering if you had a photo!
OP how far can your daughter walk? You might be better going to the other entry so you're seeing the stairs from the bottom.
