We are staying at Pop Century our first night since our flight arrives late that evening. We want to transfer to the Polynesian really early the next morning (thinking around 6:00 am) and just wanted to take a cab. What's the best way to handle this? Are taxis readily available at the resorts or should I call a cab? Should I call the night before or that morning? Any recommended cab companies?

TIA,
Debbie

Luggage Assistance or the Front Desk can get you a cab if there aren't any in the parking lot. Are you sure you want to go that early? The reservations system may or may not be ready for you; the room less so; you'd be going from a sure-thing room to maybe being roomless for more hours than necessary.

They can still check their bags with Bell Services and go about their day. They'll even call you when the room is ready.

I have never seen taxi's loitering at the resorts, only at TTC and DTD. However, if you call one I'm sure the ride is pretty cheap.

That being said, 6a is REALLY early, even for Disney. Unless you've already paid, why not just stay offsite for a few hours and then use the Magical Transport to get to the Poly? You can easily find a hotel near the Orlando Airport that has local shuttle service that's free?

Thanks for the information!

We were going to stay at the hotel in the Orlando airport but it was cheaper to stay at Pop Century (I used the 15% room only discount).

Our plan is to get to the Polynesian early so we can check-in and get our KTTW cards, store our luggage with bell services, grab some breakfast, and then walk to the T&TC to catch the monorail to be at EPCOT for park opening. I wanted to give ourselves plenty of time so we aren't rushed and can make it to EPCOT early. Maybe 6am is being too aggressive.....guess we are overly excited to get to the Poly! ;)

Getting a cab won't be an issue. If there isn't one there already, they can call for one.
You never know....your room may be ready. But, if it isn't, just store the bags, get checked in, and head to Epcot. Very doable!!!!

All resorts have taxis waiting outside - they just have their own area so they don't stick out like a sore thumb! I've seen 3-4 at a time at all resorts waiting, including Pop. If for some strange reason it's a busy time of day & they are all out, they will call one for you.

And about the ride being pretty cheap - think again. We use taxis a lot on site & in the last 2 years we haven't used one that was under $15 plus tip. I've not taken one from Pop to Poly so I can't comment on that, but Epcot Area Resorts to Poly is $18 plus tip.

While 6am is waaaaaaaaaaaay too early for me to be doing anything in WDW, I think your plan is fine & will give you time to relax after your transfer, eat breakfast & get over to Epcot for rope drop. Have fun!

Thanks for the information on the taxi fares. A few years ago we took a cab from the Polynesian to DHS and I vaguely remember the fare being about $12 + tip.

As for the 6am part --- here in the "real world" I get up at 5am and get to my office by 6:15am everyday so I'm an early bird. While DH & DD don't love getting up super early they'll do it for Disney!

A taxi from POP to the Poly will be around $20 to $25, plus tip.

About 3 years ago, we took a cab from YC to POP..took less than 10 mins to get there, probably about 8 mins. The fare was under $10..but gave the driver a ten and that included the tip. So, I would doubt that you are going to go from Pop to the Polynesian for under $15, not including tip. It will most likely be right around $20. Best to be prepared!!!

I have to say I disagree with this statement of there being taxis at POP on a regular basis. We stay at POP as our hotel of choice and we never see them sitting there in the 'drop off' area. Unless they have them sitting in a parking lot, that is where they would be. I would imagine that they'll have one there quickly for you though. But I go in and out of the 'arrival' doors (by the drop off loop) multiple times a day when we stay in the 50's section and there isn't ever a cab sitting there. Actually, they (the CMs in charge) get a bit antsy with some of the limo drivers pulling in to do drop offs/pick ups! They're a bit picky about that loop and the ME buses...So I'm not sure what others not driving their own car or a rental or arriving by ME are supposed to do at POP because the one CM seems to get his britches all twisted if anybody else enters that loop. And the other area is a parking lot. If the one loop is for ME only then it should be labeled accordingly. So I can't imagine 'him' letting taxis sit there! LOL!
and we haven't seen them sitting in the 'front' parking lot either....I guess they could be on the side but I doubt it. when we had our rental, we would never see one over in the 50's area.....

They do have their own area at the resorts, they're not allowed to idle or park up front where guests would see them, and where ME comes in. That's what I meant when I said they don't stick out like a sore thumb, they are there, they're not meant to be seen. They must be doing their job then, if you've never seen any!

We use taxis frequently at resorts & I've always seen them drive up from elsewhere on property, they're never at the main entrance just waiting. Also - the taxis we've had have not been traditional yellow taxis - they've mostly been sedans or SUVs, so that's another reason you might not be spotting them.

Interesting...but I would think that they would still have some sort of company logo on them or something rather than being a 'plain unmarked' vehicle. I would think that would be more of a 'private car' service rather than a taxi service if they are using unmarked vehicles. We head back to POP Century resort in just a couple of months and this has piqued my interest. I'll have to ask the manager how this works at this hotel, if they are using a taxi company or a private car service or what they are doing. That way I know! I doubt I'd use it, but just in case. :goodvibes
