How much would the fare be for a taxi from Pop Century to Hard Rock Hotel? I've read that the cheapest way to do it is to rent a car for one day, but that sounds painful. Has anyone done this?
TIA,
Katy :sunny:

What did you ride in, a limousine? The OP asked taxi rates. I would say the taxi meter would come up about $30.00 to $35.00. Depends on the resort you are staying at.

ACTUALLY, we took a taxi. yes, 50 bucks each way from pop to universal. I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN.

Next time take a Mears taxi (checker at the resort and city or yellow from Universal)and tell the driver to run the meter. Evidently you picked up a gypsy cab.

If anyone reads this and takes a Mears taxi get the taxi number. If the driver overcharges you put it in the disboards along with the driver's name, car number, date and time. I will forward the information to the Mears driver manager. The driver manager may contact you and reimburse you for the questionable amount.

I am tired of reading these boards about how you get ripped off by taxis. If you take a Mears cab you will have a chance to recover an overpayment.

Not nessecarily. If there was traffic the meter was still running and it could easily hit $50. I've had the meter hit $18 between the BWV and the GF Spa due to heavy traffic--in a Mears owned metered cab.

When was the last time you rode in a taxi from Disney to Universal? So you take a personal car to Disney from Clermont and ride a taxi to Universal. You talking about heavy traffic between Boardwalk and the Grand Floridian? Please tell me when that was.

I have only lived here for a couple of years. Prior to that I was a tourist. Lets see, the last time I took a cab from the BW to the GF would have been in August of 2003. Fares were lower then as well now that I think about it. I have taken a metered cab from the BW/BC area around 7:30 AM to the GF Spa over a half dozen times between 2001 and 2003. It was never under $14 plus tip, usually in the $15-16 plus tip range. Once or twice it hit $18, plus tip, as there was a lot of traffic due to it being a holiday weekend.

Just talked with a regular Mears regular Taxi driver at Disney and the meter rate from BW to GF is approx. $14.00 to $15.00. This does not include a tip.

Last winter, a taxi from Old Town to Universal (about a mile further than Pop Century) metered at $38.41

But you can't just go by miles on the map. You also have to figure in traffic and traffic lights. The meter continues to run while you sit at lights or in traffic, so in effect it's quite possible for a trip to be $50 if there is an accident or heavy traffic.

I sat in traffic for THREE HOURS to get into US a couple weeks ago due to a tragic "accident."

From POP there is one stop light at Disney, maybe two. Interstate 4 no stop lights and three entering Universal to the drop off point. Heavy traffic doesn't usually slow down to much, maybe 40 miles per hour. Accident yes and the meter will run at about $22.00 for each hour sitting still, it runs by miles when you are rolling. So if the car is rolling at 10 miles per hour the meter is calculating on the number of miles driven. When the car stops it goes to timing at about .40 per minute.

A veteran driver gave me that figure and it may be off by + or - $1.00. You stay at BW and this driver sits the stand at BW. Have you met a the checker cab driver with the SUV named Koresh? I think the taxi rates have changed maybe two times since 2003.

Let me give everyone a little bit more information about the Mears cabs. They are also GPS equipped. Their trips are monitored and the records kept for thirty days. So if you think you have been cheated on a price, you should give them a call and question it. By the way a trip from POP to Univeral would run you about $25.00 to $27.00 on a Mears cab. Again this information is from a driver who takes that route usually 2 - 5 times daily.

Traffic during peak morning and evening drive on I-4 seldom gets over about 30 mph. Listen to the news in the morning, it's almost always backed up between Lake and Sand Hill, often due to an accident.

I haven't stayed at the BW for over a year now.
