If we want to catch a taxi after MK fireworks, to avoid long bus lines, do we have to call or are there taxis waiting?

There are usually Taxis there however I am not sure how fast they fill up and how long you have to wait. Currently due to some road work the Taxi/Pickup Drop off area have been relocated so depending on when you go you might want to check double check their exact location.

I'm not sure how much time you'll really save by taking a taxi from the MK. Once you find the MK taxi stand or walk to the Contemporary or get to one of the other MK resorts and hope there is a taxi there I would think that the bus would have come and gone.

You can't get a taxi right at Magic Kingdom, anyway. Taxis are at the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC), and from the MK you get to the TTC by lining up for a monorail or lining up for a ferry.

In big tourist areas (such as WDW), there's never a need to reserve a taxi. Every theme park, every water park, every hotel will have taxis waiting, or at least one that can be summoned by a cast member within a minute or two.

The best way to avoid the long lines is not to try to leave any park right after the fireworks. On our last trip we just sat on a bench across from the castle as the throngs stormed down Main Street to the exits. After about twenty minutes we walked down a very quiet Main Street to the equally quiet bus stop area.

Just sit, walk around, get a snack, shop or window shop. Take it easy for about twenty minutes or so and the bulk of the people will be gone.

Not going to happen at MK. There are no taxis at the park. The closest taxi would be at the Contemporary which is a 8-10 minute walk from MK.

To get a taxi at the TTC, you will need to take either the ferry or Monorail to the TTC and then walk to the taxi stand which is normally out by the guest drop off/Managers parking area. Right now, until the Seven Seas repaving project is done, the taxis are relocated to the Sleepy parking area.

If you don't want crowds, I would wait it out inside the park, use this for a little downtime, grab a snack and just watch the crowds go by.

We have reservations for the dessert party so leaving early is not an option.

wdwgoofeeee was not suggesting that you leave early, but hanging around for a bit after the park closes. It's a great time to grab a snack and wait for the crowd to dissipate.

I would just use the walkway to the Contemporary and get a taxi from there.
And I would just take the bus. I don't think the OP will save a lot of time walking all the way to the CR for a taxi. Disney cranks the buses through pretty quickly and even if you miss the first one there should be another one right away. Of course, if it's an anxiety/crowd thing then I would agree with you about walking to the CR.

I thought the OP (from her previous posts) was staying at the Polynesian so I don't know where the buses come in anyway :confused3.
