Just wondering if people would consider the taxis on site 'safe' for solo females?

I'm planning on eating at a couple of restaurants at other resorts and as I'm not driving the easiest option would be to ask the valet to call me a taxi over, but I'd like to hear what people think please.

Thanks

I've taken taxis from WDW to the Outlet mall with no problems. Have also taken them with my DD, who was 9 at the time, within WDW. No problems anytime.

It's what you are comfortable with, I myself have taken taxis alone many times and have never had any trouble.

That being said, I am also cheap :) so if I had the time I would figure out a way to use the WDW transportation first to get there...maybe using DTD or a park as a transfer hub.

Another solo taxi user. I have never felt anything but safe with the taxis at disney. I also would look at the disney transport (too cheap for taxis if I can :lmao:)

Can I ask a question? If you are staying on site why do you not want to use Disney transportation? Or are the restaurants off site.

You said "Resort Restaurants". That sounds like on property. Just take the monorails, busses, and boats.
Why not?

Thanks, good to hear no issues :goodvibes

I'm thinking more about getting a taxi back from where I'm eating, getting there will be no problem as I'll use the Disney transportation but I'm planning a couple of meals quite late which will mean by time I've finished my meal the parks will be closed and I'm just a little unsure about taking the bus from where I'm eating to DTD and then waiting around there for a bus back to my resort later on in the evening.

I have done that myself a few times, the first time after having the wine pairing at Victoria and alberts!! If the park is closed just pop down to dtd and catch the resort bus back.

i have used taxis a few times. ususally getting back to resort from epcot. my feet hurt more after epcot than any other park. and the bus stop is way past the taxi stand. so i usually budget for the taxi that day.

I too have taken a taxi in Disney, but only from the airport and my hotel. I probably will need to take one though this Spring Break, because I want to try Universal and don't know another way to get there!

On my last trip I had dinner at Kona after MK closed and took a taxi back to POP. No problem at all.

Going forward, some of the parks will remain open later in the evening. And transportation (with perhaps exceptions of some of the watercraft) run an hour after the parks close. DTD is open late to accommodate those late night shoppers. In theory, you could take a bus to DTD and transfer there. That late at night, the only other stop from the West Side would be Pleasure Island. If you debark at Pleasure Island, you can wait for the next bus to your resort.

Although I did feel perfectly safe, I did feel very awkward. Somehow sitting alone in the back seat, while the driver sits alone in the front seat felt kinda wierd to me. But I'm wondering if it would be "wrong" to ask to sit in front-maybe sound a little forward, or something?

I feel very safe . I have done taxis back to POP or another hotel - not a problem.. I have also done the bus to DTD and then taken another one to the hotel.

Taken a taxi and/or bus many times by myself as a younger solo female. Never felt unsafe or uncomfortable at all. In fact it wasn't until this last trip that I've ever felt unsafe at WDW, and I wasn't by myself.

I've taken a ton of cabs around WDW, a lot of them at 2 am after Jellyrolls closes and I have never felt unsafe. Except this one time a friend and I took one to a tattoo parlor in Orlando and I thought the cabbie was lost. lol

I have done the solo taxi thing and felt perfectly safe. I know that you can take a bus to DTD and then to your resort but for the relatively small fee ($15-$20 at most?), I was happy to spend it instead of wasting the time to transfer buses, etc. If it's late and I can get to my room within 15 minutes, or do the bus thing for 45 minutes (depending on the wait at the bus stops), I will take the taxi.

If you feel uncomfortable in the taxi, try talking to the driver. It can help. But like anything else, don't tell him you're there alone. You can even go a bit further and make him think that you're meeting your party back at your resort. :goodvibes

Lets see. . .I have done solo taxi at Disney many times, also in Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC and Baltimore. I hate waiting for busses when its nighttime cause I feel "exposed" when alone. Taking the taxi gives me the sense that someone is there to whisk me back to my "haven" at a moment's notice. News-wise there are not many incidents of taxi drivers being molesters or rapeists. . .however, there are news-wise incidents of people being kidnapped from bus stops and shuttle wait areas. . .

Wow, I noticed I only posted the US taxis I have taken solo. I have also taken taxis in London, Germany, Mexico and Greece.
