I'm sorry if this question is dumb or has been answered. I am comparing an contrasting the plans and was wondering, what is the sales tax amount on food at WDW? How is tax charged when using the DDP? Do you pay sales tax on top of the price of the plan when you purchase the plan or do you have to pay the applicable tax for each meal after the credit is deducted from your plan?

In most of WDW, sales tax is 6.5%. The exception is the All-Star Resorts and ESPN WWS where it is 7% (they are located in a different county than the rest of the place).

With any of the plans, the tax is included in the price, so there is no further cost for any of the taxes by stuff covered on the plan. If you order something off the plan, then the tax will be applied to those items.

For example, if I order a meal that totals $53.32 of covered items, and $10 drink, my bill would come to a total of $10.65.

The price of the dining plan includes tax (don't have to pay tax on top of the price of the plan). Once in the restaurant, the taxes are covered by the dining plan. All you need to cover is anything not covered by the plan (plus tax on THAT item), and tip.

Thanks so much for the info. Follow up question. There will be 11 of us in a group. If we use the dining plan, will they give us what would of been the amount for purposes of calculating the tip and/or will they automatically charge 18% as is often the practice?

I'm no MBA, so I don't know the inner workings of the Disney dining plan. They charge you a fixed daily rate, which includes 6.5% tax. However, Disney doesn't know what you'll order, and prices of items vary. I guess they use their wholesale costs, and a lot of research, to come up with a daily price that will cover cost, tax and profit. If you break out your hotel invoice, the charge for dining is not taxed (because it's built-in already). Just your room (12.5-13%) and tickets (6.5%) are taxed.

Yes, you will be presented a bill and the auto grat will be on it. You can then tell your server how you would like to pay it. That is also regardless of if you use the DP or pay OOP.

At the bottom of each receipt they show you how much an 18% or 20% tip should be. With a party of your size constantly eating together most likely there will be an automatic tip charge that you'll see on the receipt. I've never had more then then 5 people at a time, so I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong :).
