Do you use efile? and do you use turbo tax or kiplingers? online version or do you buy the program?

I usually go to Staples and buy either Turbo Tax or the Kiplingers Tax cut, then install it in my computer and do my taxes and efile.

this year my online banking has turbo tax offered for $25 and I can do it right on my banks online section of the website.

even though I do my state taxes online thru the state site,...... for federal, I have never done it online, anyone do theirs online like that , does it make you uncomfortable?

I do mine online every year using H&R Block. I did have one year when I had some concerns so I went to H&R block. The man that did my taxes used the same program that I use from home but I had to pay more, never again. I have never had a problem preparing or filing on line.

I used TaxAct for the past few years. It is free for anyone to use. I used to use Turbo Tax online but then I started making more money and had to pay. I have no reservations whatsoever using a reputable service to do and file my taxes online. I filed on 1/22 and had my money DD on 1/29.

The state I do on the state website since it is free there. TaxCut wants to charge $15.95 or something. No thanks. I"m all about free! lol

We used to efile every year until DH started his own company, now the accountant does it. We never had any issues.

I do not file onjline, and neither do any of my tax clients.

And several years ago, while I was still working, I was in a car pool with my wife and two senior IRS programmers. They told me that I was much better off not filing electronically.

I do mine online every year through H&R Block. I like their program because it's straightforward and easy to use. The returns are then e-filed, and my refunds are direct deposited. Easy and no fuss. :)

DH files ours online using Turbo Tax and has never had any problems. He just did ours last Sun and our State refund was direct deposited today.(we owed on Fed)

How so? Programming errors or not all of the latest IRS code changes added? I usually wait until March to file with TurboTax, by then hopefully all of the upgrades have been made.

This is my third year in a row efiling through taxslayer and I love it!

We used to use an accountant. The last few times we did, he e-filed them.

Now, I buy TurboTax Deluxe & install in our computer & then e-file for Fed & State. I've been doing it that way for years. (FYI, Walmart seems to always have the cheapest price for the software.)

For those that use TurboTaxes online version:
1. does it handle just very basic taxes or everything?
2. Can you store your taxes from year to year?
3. Is there a file that you can save to your computer (like a PDF file for example) if you wanted to to or is it just stored on their website at their end?
4. I'm assuming its free to use online?
5. Does it do state also? Is that free?

What if you use online one year, and want to buy software next year? Can you still import your info? How about vice versa, software to online?

My dad actually does my taxes (he's both a nuclear engineer and a CPA) with Turbo Tax and has e-filed for years (both state and federal). We've never had the slightest issue.

I noticed this year that our state charges you extra if you don't e-file. It is SO much easier and streamlined.

Silent..

1. does it handle just very basic taxes or everything? EVERYTHING
2. Can you store your taxes from year to year? YES
3. Is there a file that you can save to your computer (like a PDF file for example) if you wanted to to or is it just stored on their website at their end? YES you can save it to your computer
4. I'm assuming its free to use online? You can do your return online but you have to pay to actually print and file.
5. Does it do state also? Is that free? Depending on the version state is included in the efile-but not with all.

I just went up to walmart and got Turbo Tax, I got the basic edition it was $24 and it includes 5 efiles.

I always play around with our returns anyway, to see which way works out best for us to file, jointly or separately, we have had years when to do it separate worked out better.

we did our state thru the states website, the $$ was DD 3 days later.

how fast does federal direct deposit refunds? i don't think I have ever done DD with federal taxes, just took the check, and that takes a few weeks.

I just came back from disney, and my pocketbook is significantly lighter than before I left:rolleyes1 LOL
