I used the "Where's My Refund" site as well but it didn't show anything until a week before the refund came in. Before that it just said there was nothing there.
I always efile, it is easier to prove I sent it on time, it is better for the environment (uses no paper, i just keep a PDF on my computer), is now much more secure than sending a physical copy around that someone could get a hold of and takes less time to get my money back.
And there are numerous ways to efile for free, I always use TurboTax though, as it somehow always gets me a larger refund than I can do on my own.

There are some people who can not efile...I am one of them. Because DH had to file 10 state returns (he's a consultant), we could not efile. I would prefer to efile, but it hasn't been an option for us for a few years. I mailed all my returns with delivery acknowledgement so I have some record of receipt.
ETA: When I checked "where's my refund?" it said that we would have our refund within 21 days of receipt. We are direct depositing the money, so hopefully it won't take the entire 21 days.

I actually checked it for the first time today because some of the state refunds have started to show up in my checking account, and the states almost always come after the feds. I mailed my federal return on Feb. 4 and they received it on Feb. 7. The website said I should see my refund within 21 days of receipt, so I guess that puts it around the end of Feb. - beginning of March.

I use Turbo Tax, but we got a new furnace, and claiming the Energy credits, means no E filing. RATS. They will not even process those credits, or the college tuition credits until March, so I am not holding my breath.

That's not quite accurate, they have already processed the tuition credits (at least for us), despite being told March. As for the energy credits, that stinks that it prevents efiling.
