tax write-off for trip to attend annual meeting?

I've always wanted to know this...and never bothered to ask my accountant (which would be the logical thing to do) but since this board is such a WEALTH of knowledge, here it goes:

Are my expenses eligible for a tax deduction (i.e. airfare, etc) to attend the annual association meeting - it's not like they offer access via webcast, so I need to get there from NJ if I want to participate...
 
No, unfortunately travel expenses related to administration of a vacation property are not deductible. Taxes and interest may be deductible depending on your personal circumstances.

FWIW, members don't get to participate - they have no legal say in how things are run and have no part in the proceedings. There is a short question and answer period for those in the audience, but that is done on the part of DVC managerment as a courtesy / to further public relations and not required.

Anyway, even if you could deduct expenses for administration of a vacation property, I think you'd have a hard time getting this particular one by the IRS. :teeth:
