Tax Relief Money....Should I Give it to Disney???

My husband is military and I'm trying to convince him that his Commander in Chief gave us an order to spend the money to stimulate the economy, so we should go to Disney. He's ain't buying it. :sad2: He wants to use it to fix up the house. I'm still working on him. ;)

I say unless the amount of CC debt is crippling, go to Disney! You only live once. Have fun!

One thing you may want to consider is how much you'll be saving on CC fees by paying the balance down faster. You'll have more money in your pocket in the long run, instead of paying the CC for the privledge of running a balance. Once I got Quicken and added up what I was giving away for nothing on CC fees, I got rid of CC balances fast!

is to spend it on your vacation. It isn't that much $$$$ anyway - you may as well enjoy it. That's my motto.

...is to do what you want to do.

Stimulate the economy, pay off your credit cards, put it in a piggy bank, give it to me.

Just don't tell me your choice is better than mine. That reeks.

You hath said a mouthful - I couldn't agree more. Do what YOU want to do. It's nobody's business. Everyone makes their own choices for different reasons and nobody should feel "shamed" for using their rebate for a well-deserved vacation.

I will be credit card debt free on June 1 of this year. And believe me - I started with about $22,000 in debt so it's been a long, hard road for me. But, I will NEVER adopt a Holier Than Thou attitude towards those who carry a balance - I know how it is. Life is expensive - and we deserve to have a little magic.

i would pay the cc off. but then again like all the other poster said, it's really up to you and none of our business

you know, I love watching those cc debt tv shows because it makes me feel so much better about the little amount of money I owe on my cc!!! :rotfl2:

I only owe about $2,500 on my cc ... so I'm going to use my tax refund on that and my hubby and I are debating on spending the $1200 rebate we get from the govmn't on a trip to Disney or putting it with the other $6,000 we have now for a downpayment on a house in 2009. Decisions decisions!

I am pretty sure that the extra funds will go to Disney since I have the c.c.'s pretty much under control. Last year at this time I had a lot of debt and was able to get rid of 3 of my four cards....with only one left, I feel good about spending the funds on a vacation. However, I also know that this will be our last major vacation because I graduate from college in 2009 and my DH and I are ready to move the family to a bigger place once I have a job. This is our last Hurrah at Disney (at least we won't be back for about 5 years or so) and I am ready to do it up!!!:hippie: :hippie: :hippie:

That's so funny. That is exactly what we are doing with our $, heading to Disney! Yay!!!

Well, I pretty much gave up going for our 10 year anniversary. But I say the rebate is making it possible now. With the 40% deluxe room code I got, and the tax rebate, I'm going in October. I'm sick of saving....

When I heard of the refund, my natural instinct was to pay off my daughter's catholic school tuiton for 2nd grade ($2000---We'll be getting back $1800)...But, then I thought "Hmm...what about that Disney Cruise...." LOL

Sadly my rebate will probably have to go to Son's Catholic School Tuition too. We usually use our yearly tax refund and extra check (paid biweekly so twice a year get 3 checks a month) but since I don't think we will get back as much as in the past and since Tuition went up again ($5400 .....brb I have to go look at his great standardize testing scores so I don't have a heart attack about the cost of school....ok I'm better :) ) I'll probably have to add it to tuition.

Hmmmm wonder if I could talk the hubby into letting me use a little to upgrade resorts on my May trip! Yea like thats gonna happen. I'm married to Grumpy! :) Oh well its fun to dream! :)

Have fun all of you using it for Disney!

My hands do a Beatles song when checks or money comes along: my left hand sings "I say hello" and my right hands sings "and you say goodbye"!!

Sometimes, when my hubby and I are torn between being practical and having fun with an unexpected windfall (or even an expected one, like a bonus from work), we decide to set aside a small portion to do something fun with. So we use the majority of it to pay a bill or debt or for something big for the house, then we put aside a small amount that we can split up and spend separately, or use together.

So maybe you could put some toward your credit card and keep a little for an "extra" (like the BBB if you have a DD) that you might not have planned on doing. Just another idea... but like others have said, it's your money to use as you choose. :)

IF they even issue the rebate this year, I highly doubt my family will be receiving it, so it's a moot point for us. :confused3 But if we do get one, we'll probably put it all toward the trip we've already booked, whose total I am still trying to digest.

just talked dh into letting me spend it on our trip. :goodvibes he wanted to wait on our trip till feb and use money for new car. but...... i worked some :wizard: and got him to agree to wait on new car. so sept here we come!!!!

I say go to Disney and have fun! You will be stimulating the economy, maybe not your local economy, but will be America's economy. Florida's state economy is highly grounded in tourism and vunerable to downturns. If there is a recession, you better believe that there will be layoffs and hiring freezes around Orlando. If you go spend your tax rebate there, you really are helping out. It would be better to spend on something like the service industry, where the money goes directly into American's pockets, than go by a Japanese car or Chinese manufactured electronics. Just think, by visiting the mouse you are doing your civic duty :rotfl:

Disclaimer: this is not a knock on anyone else's views or decisions, just sharing a different opinion!!!

We actually had a trip to the GF planned for spring, but cancelled it last month due to the uncertainty of the market and the possible recession. The thought of spending thosands of dollars on a WDW trip, while going into a recession and having other bills, was actually making me feel ill! I am dissapointed about missing the trip, but I feel better knowing that we will be more secure and prepared for the worst.

We don't have credit card debt, but if we did, I can't imagine using a refund or rebate for anything other than paying it down, personally... maybe the difference with me, and the reason I feel so strongly about it, is that I have actually been part of a layoff in the past, so I know the terrible feeling of losing your job and having to dip into savings for household bills.

Personally, if we get a rebate, we will put it in savings since we're going into a recession. I'd rather have that extra nest egg there in case my dh or I are every involved in a layoff again. You always think it can't happen to you, until it does!
