Tax Rebate Checks and Disneyland

I'm hoping to use it towards a trip to Disneyland. My first visit.

I still need to get my W2 form from work in order to file. I should have it by my planned time of April (if plans pan out). If not, I'll just put away in savings.

I was just wondering how does this rebate thing work??? I read a little bit about it but wasn't really paying attention to it..

If you paid over $3,000 in taxes you will recieve about $600 if single, $1200 if married + $300 for each kid. So hubby and I will recieve $1800 check from the govt. If you are lower income than that, (say my mom who does not work) you should get about $300.

If you are upper income bracket say over $150 year (approx) you probably wont get any $$. Basically they are saying: HEY the country is headed into a recession and you COULD lose youR house, what are YOU gonna do with your money? I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!!

Mind you, next year on your taxes you will have to claim it as income and pay tax on it. Hmmm could be an issue for some.

:surfweb:

Individuals with adjusted gross incomes of $3,000 to $75,000 would get rebates worth $300 to $600. Joint filers with annual incomes up to $150,000 would receive up to $1,200. Individuals and families that earn more than those limits would get rebates that decline as their incomes increase. Families also would get bonuses of $300 per child, except for families that earn more than $186,000.

This is what I found.

I plan to help stimulate your US economy by spending most of my Canadian tax return at Disneyland! The rest will go towards a Land/Sea Cruise for my daughter and I in late fall. I hope:worship:

We don't have any plans for ours yet.

Our regular return was supposed to be deposited today but it wasn't. I wonder what the delay is? We'll be using it for our DL vacation in 33 days so I hope it comes soon!

We must work for procrastinating companies - I have never gotten my W2s before February (they have to be in the mail by Feb 1st). So we won't be able to file for a little while still. We and my DBro are the only ones in our family who don't have to pay once we file (at least half of all the other spousal units are self-employed). It will be an interesting file this year too since we worked in multiple states (only 1 with income tax) and moved. Depending on how much we get back and when I find a career position, we would like to use for AP.

It will be like they did about 5 years ago. If you qualify, they will give you $1200 per married working couple and $300 per child. If it passes, they will start issueing the checks in late May by social secutiry number. There is rumors that the Demos are pushing for more of the rebate to go to low income families. So we don't quite know yet how this will all iron out. We used ours 5 years ago for a trip to Mexico. If this passes, it will pay for airfare for our Thanksgiving Disneyland trip!!! So, we're keeping our fingers crossed!!!

i heard that small buss would be included but dont know the spicfics, I know i heard why pelosi gave up on the food stamps add it would be 10cents a day to me and others on it but she said its not worth it to slow this plan down when shed rather see 1000dollers in that moms hand to do what they need to weather then food, and there gona be working on a food stamp bill adding to them and adding to unemployment and ssi stuff but not in the stimlate package becouse they need that out fast.

they are syaing the senit promises to pass it by feb 15th and so far as long as you dont make more the 150 a cupple or 75k alone and make at least 3000 earned income it looks like youd make something

Is anyone else worried that Disneyland will be more crowded after everyone gets their rebate checks???

Actually just heard on the news that if it doesn't pass in the next two weeks it will be way after May for the checks to come, possibly not until late fall. I would really like to buy my airfare in May!!!!!

i'm still wondering if this is, in fact, a extra bonus check or more of a early refund like the last one was:confused: and the subsequent year-end refund for '08 will be less proportionally?

That's how I read it. Obviously, nothing is set in stone but it looks a lot like the one in 2001. More like an advance on your 2008 return (that you get in 2009) than a rebate. Be careful so you don't end up spending it all and then owing more when you file in 2009!

we took a ding last time:eek: , decreased our deductions and have had a "built-in" vacation fund ever since;)

Mine wasn't as big as expected. It's still great but not quite enough to pay for an ENTIRE trip. I have to save up for the other half, which will likely push my trip into the fall timeframe instead of April. I'll just head to WDW in April and do a nice California trip in the fall :cool1:

If you what happened yesterday, the Democrats want to add more people who may not pay taxes. A tax rebate is money coming back on the taxes you pay. Probably going to see more smoke and mirrors before this is all resolved.
Being a senior citizen, I will take every nickle they want to give me.

We are getting back a very nice chunk of change, so we are blowing most of it on a Disneyland/Redwoods/San Francisco/Oregon Coast vacation. We were originally booked for WDW and east coast vacation, but the airfare from Hawaii is just too high. We are from the east coast and have been there the last 2 summers in a row, so this year we wanted to visit DH's mom in Oregon and see SF, the redwoods, and whatever else there is to see on the CA coast after we get our Disney fix!

We were planning on using our regular tax return for DL in June, but after a big storm we had a utility pole go down in our yard. Apparently it's our responsibility. So after $1500 to put in a new one, there went that refund!

So I'm happy about this other tax rebate. But not if it's just an advance on next years return. That could end up putting a lot of people in an owing situation. Not smart! I'd just rather get next years money NEXT year and put it to a future trip.
