Umm.. which tax rate? It's not a sales tax change so please clarify.

EDIT: NM. Figured it out

Sales tax in Orange Co. is 6.5%

The new tourism tax rate is 6%
The old rate was 5%.

So ya. I see where you are coming from. Thanks for supporting our state! :)

Its the room tax - not sales tax. Most if not all taxing districts (Cities and Counties) tax hotel rooms inaddition to sales tax to make revenue.

Good try though

Thanks. I had already replied to what has changed. Good try though.

The OP was talking about the TOTAL tax rate that a tourist would pay on the room.

Sorry I didn't specifiy that 6.5%(Sales Tax) + 6% (Hotel Tax/Tourism Tax at a new rate) = 12.5% (Total tax rate for a room rental)

sorry for the confusion...i was just saying when you figure your room out add 12.5 instead of 11.5 :confused3

I'm curious, if a Fl resident stayed in a hotel room wouldnt they also have to pay that tax?

Thanks OP for the info! (I have a good friend that we call Jilly Bean!)

Yes. Sorry again. It's called the tourism tax or a bed tax. It's on ALL rentals. Most of the rooms rented in the county are from 'tourists' and not locals which is why I stated it the way I did. So anyone renting a room would pay the new rate.

Ouch -- I thought 11.5% was high. Now 12.5? That kinda sux. :(

P.S. You should also report this on the resorts board.

Thanks! You never know and I sure didnt if Fl residents got that break. If they did the deal was sealed and I would have to move there. ;)

Hmm...i Check Out Sept 1 Form Hard Rock...wonder What Tax I'll Be Paying?

I dont know how that works but I would think 11.5%. :confused3
You need to call reservations and ask them.

I have my reservation starting on Sept. 2 paid in full. I wonder if they will make us pay the difference? Either way fine, it would just have been nice to know before hand. I'm sure when I called last week to pay they must have known. Oh well, nothing PBH can do about it.
