Tattoos in strange places

I know we've had tattoo threads before and I mentioned my thoughts on them...

It's getting to the point now where I don't mind them very often anymore, but some places people choose to put tattoos though is starting to get weird to me.

I've seen the recent trend of people (mostly guys) putting tattoos on their necks, even their hands...and you can't cover those up very easily, apparently they don't mind (and they'll never be Disney CM's!).

Now I'm seeing more and more foot tattoos and those really bother me for some reason, and my level-headed, mature cousin just got one recently as well. Every time I see one, I cringe.

Am I the only one bothered by where people are putting tattoos now?

My DH has a full sleeve and some on his other arm. He also has some on the back of his hands, including our family along his hand between his thumb and forefinger. He once mentioned getting my name or my initials on his neck so he could tell people I'm a pain in his neck. He decided against that. :thumbsup2 The only tattoos that bother me are the ones on people's faces. They're distracting. I personally have none, and don't plan on getting any. DH wants more.

I have one on the top of my foot.

I guess I don't see how that spot is strange? It can be covered easily with a sock.

Necks and hands, I understand are not "normal" or popular places to get tattooed, as they are quite difficult to cover.

Nope, because I have one on my foot. :) It has deep meaning to me, and that's all that matters.

The foot is not a "weird" place to get tattooed, many men and women have their feet tattooed. It is one of the most painful spots, but it's fairly commonplace. It is easily covered and it has a very slim chance of hindering a job interview. No one see's it unless I'm barefoot or in sandals.

Just so that it matters, I've been told I'm fairly level-headed and mature for being a teenager. ;)

My Dad was in the Navy during the Korean War. He had a lot of tattoos from those days. Most were your typical sailor tattos (woman in bakini along the length of his arm, a "I love you, Mom" on his other arm). He had a boat anchor on the web of his hand between his thumb and finger.

My Dad later told me that he regretted the tattoos that were visible on his lower arms and hands. He said it was cool when he was younger, but once he became a Grandpa, he didn't feel comfortable letting the kids see the tattoos. He always wore long sleeves to cover his arm, but there was nothing he could do about his hands. I didn't think there was anything wrong with his tattos, but it sure did bother him.

after i have my children that i want/am able to have, i want to get the first letter of each of their names tattoed on me. im not sute where yet, but i know htat i want it done. i have friends that have tattoos that are very important to them and they are on the foot and shoulder areas the most. i think an odd place is the face or the backs or palms of hands. and wrists, because its hard to cover those up as well

My ex-SIL's father has tattoos on both of his shins, about halfway between the knee and the ankle, right in front. I think they are wolves?? Something to do with the Navy or Marines, whatever branch of the service he was in. I always thought they must have been painful to get, being right on the lower leg bone like that. I haven't seen anyone else with tattoos right there.

foot tattoos bother me, but only because whenever i look at them, they make me think about how much it must hurt! that area just seems so sensitive.

and i don't mean to offend anyone, but aren't neck/hand tattoos kind of synonymous with prison time?

I do not like Wrist tattoos. I'm not sure why they bother me, I just don't care for them. Anywhere else, Tats don't bother me. I won't ever understand why people get them in their armpit area though...OUCH!!!! :scared1:

You would definitely be correct about the pain! I wanted to cry when I got my foot tattoo... neither of my others hurt as much. :( Totally worth it though!

On Big Brother, one of the players is a girl, and she is COVERED with tattoos - on her arms, fingers, neck, shins... I think the only place she doesn't have one is her face.

Some places I've seen tattoos that seemed inappropriate - many women get them on their shoulder blades - then wear wedding gowns which leave them exposed - I don't like that. Also the ones along calves - my cousin has a rose which covers nearly her entire calf, with her 3 kids' names inside a ribbon that wraps around the rose.

I have my Tattoo on my shoulder blade area, and it hurt! I love it though. I like how I can cover it up for work, and be able to show it in tank tops in the summer. It HURT though! LOL

Some of them can be. There's a new fad (I like them, but as much as I want one I wouldn't get one until I hit 50ish lol) on tattooing the side of the hand. Like this. http://www.bmeink.com/A90813/high/iv9b-untitled-image.jpg Those don't really represent prison time. The only neck tattoos I've seen depicting prison time are usually on the sides of the neck, not the front or back. But, that's just based on my experience.

I know, at least in my area, dots on the hand/knuckles are synonymous of prison time. The number of dots represents the number of years you spent in jail.

Wimp. ;)
JKJK. I totally thought the monarch would hurt more (especially since I'm considering one in that spot now, haha).

I have no tattoos but I like them. One of my sons has many, including one on the back of his neck. I never given any thought to other people's art unless I see one that I really like.

haha I was kind of surprised at the pain! It hurt the most near my toes, and on the side/outside edge. You're lucky you got the foot done first..now everything else will seem like a piece of cake ;)

I have one on my ankle, a pretty common place. My DH has a pair of red lips on his behind. The ones that really bother me are the ones close to or on the face, and stomach and lower backs. I have also seen an image on photobucket of a guy with his entire private area tattooed.. Words cannot describe.

I just finished watching a show on the History Channel about the history of tattoos, past and present day.
They have come out with UV ink that you can only see the tattoo under ultra violet light.
They also showed a guy getting the white of his eye done by ink in a needle-ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I don't have any yet, but am trying to muster the courage to get one on my ankle.

I've been thinking about one on my lower back. I have a birthmark there already that I might as well cover up. I can't think of anywhere else that no one can see and I think gravity will affect that less than anywhere else. I don't know. I am open to suggestions.

I want a butterfly for me, a star for my oldest and something else that my youngest hasn't chosen yet. I'd like to have it all incorporated into one design, but I haven't got all the elements yet.

I saw a young man the other day with a tat running down his side. (It was a word, but the letters were in an old English type font and I couldn't even read what it said.) The goofiest thing to me though was it started way up under his armpit. It was 8 letters, only 7 of which you could see unless his arm was raised in the air. Seemed like poor positioning/spacing to me! (And a poor font choice too, actually.)

I love tattoos. I have three. The only area I really cringe seeing tattooed is the inside of the bottom lip. It creeps me out. But, I guess if they like them, that's all that matters. I went to a water park this week, and it seemed like everyone had a tattoo. They're definitely becoming more popular.
