Tate's Chocolate Chip Cookies

I've had them. They taste fine, but are overpriced and break too easily--I find it tough to find a package with no broken cookies.

My DD20 loves to make cookies, so we get them fresh at home. For those who like a crisp cookie, try experimenting with the ingredients--more brown sugar (and less white) will make a crisper cookie. But, the experimentation process is key--it could take you dozens of tries to get the perfect (for you) cookie. We're a science family, this is the sort of trial-and-error method that we use. Ask me about the great Oreo vs Great Value vs Trader Joe's vs Benson's (Aldi's) debate.

I've seen them at the grocery, but haven't tried them. I might have to get a bag based off your recommendation.

My absolute favorite cookie for making S'mores. If you haven't tried it you absolutely must!
On a side note, you can up your s'mores game by using Ghiradelli squares instead of traditional Hershey's. My personal favorite is dark chocolate raspberry, but they have flavors for everyone. This is another area where my family did extensive research--in the interest of science, of course.

We have been eating those for years. When my now 7 year old was about 2 she climbed out of her crib at 2 am, went to the kitchen and took a bag of Tate's out and at them on the couch!!
Although these days just prefer to make home made. HAve been meaning to try a copy cat recipe I saw on a site I like...

First of all, do you like chocolate chip cookies? If so, do you prefer the crsip ones, or the soft, chewey ones?

If you like the crisp ones, have you ever heard of Tate's Bake Shop cookies? They are based out of Long Island, New York. Have you had them? If so, do you like them? Are they available by you?

Marie gets the once in awhile at the grocery store for a treat. They sure are good (great!); reminds me of the ones my mom used to make when I was a kid. Buttery, crisp, full of chocolate chips. They do have other products but we only have had their chocolate chip cookies.

If you have not had them and you like crisp chocolate chip cookies and you see them in the store, maybe give them a try.

I feel like the cookies are decent -I find the story of the original founder Kathleen King more interesting. It’s owned by a giant conglomerate now, but her story is worth a read.

I love them... and I am not a chocolate chip cookie fan! I buy them at Christmas Tree Shops as they are cheaper there, but I guess that's gonna end soon.

Don't recall ever seeing them at our local grocery stores, but there are always several brands of chocolate chip cookies to try. That is also one cookie where there are many variations from thin/crispy to thick/chewy and everything in between.

I have had them and like them, but they are crisp, and overall I prefer a warm, soft, just out of the oven cookie.

Marie just mentioned that with the cookies today. She said we need to pop them in the oven for a few and warm them like homemade. Then we'd have the smell also. :cloud9:

Or in the microwave for about 20 seconds. I like to make crispy cookies soft and warm by wetting a paper towel, squeezing out all the water so that the paper towel is just damp. I wrap it around the cookie and microwave. The moisture of the towel penetrates the cookie while it heats up to make them soft again. 🥰

Not worth the premium price to me. My favorite store-bought chocolate chip cookie is actually another New York brand called Linden’s.

I didn't know Linden’s is a NY brand. I love their butter crunch cookies! 🥰 They remind me of a local mom & pop bakery upstate which makes huge butter crunch cookies.

I do as I said above and microwave the Linden's in a damp paper towel to make soft & warm. It makes the butter crunch (toffee) pieces somewhat soft and chewy.

We like these! Tate's cookies are our go-to for picnics and outdoor concerts. Amazing how many new friends you can make at the Hollywood Bowl when you have Tate's to share! And the broken pieces make a great addition to ice cream sundaes. :)

I prefer soft homemade cookies, but for store bought, soft cookies always taste phony to me. The Tates chocolate chip cookies are delicious and the best commercial non-bakery made cookies I've ever tried. That said, I've only had them once. I bought a bag and proceeded to eat them ALL in one evening. I have no self control, so I keep stuff like that out of the house!

I like chocolate chip cookies but usually only eat them if I bake Tollhouse ones. Have to be soft.

They originated in Westchester, and still made there, I believe. As a kid, the chocolate chip variety were a staple in my school cafeteria. I ate them often with the half-pint of cold milk we’d always get. Never had butter crunch; seems like they are harder to find. AFAIK, they’re still sold only in the small packages of three cookies, mostly in delis and convenient stores, but I can buy a case at BJ’s. So good. :thumbsup2

We enjoy the Tates GF chocolate chip cookies in our house and a little secret is the Trader Joe’s GF cookies are actually Tate’s and a bit cheaper. I like to make a mini ice cream cookie sandwich with them.

I like those but I also like to get the Hershey's miniatures mixed bag.

I’ve tried these a couple of times. They were ok, but I didn’t love them.

Right now I’m waiting for my wife to get back from Singapore - the only thing I’ve asked for is some Famous Amos cookies. For me, those are completely irresistible.

Yeah - I don’t buy the store packaged ones. In Singapore they still have the in-mall stores - between Famous Amos and Mrs. Fields there’s a cookie store almost every block it seems. Definitely a bad place to visit when you’re a diabetic. 😢

I also tried cookies from Wally Amos’s later business, and they still weren’t as completely addictive as the originals.
I think it might be a bit of looking for stuff you can't get locally... I live in Singapore and I actively seek out Tate's cookies when I'm in the USA! Found them recently in a grocery store here and was so excited I bought a few packets of Tate's. One time I actually even ordered Tate's cookies online to be shipped from the USA to Singapore...

I do like the Famous Amos from their stores here though. Sadly no more Mrs Fields here to my knowledge though I do like Mrs Fields too. But if I had to choose a cookie store in Singapore I'd actually go for Ben's cookies (which are from the UK) - they recently returned to Singapore and I was ridiculously excited about this!
