So I finished reading the Stephanie Plum books again and really think I need to try one of these tastykakes.:rolleyes1

I understand that they are mainly in the NE. I have a few weekends free with my husband away. I'm thinking I need to roadtrip to NJ to find these wonderous things I've been reading about for so long.

Can I find tastykakes anywhere in NJ? What kinds are there and what's the best flavors? Normally I try to plan something educational or life enriching when my husband is away. I'm thinking because I've never been to NJ this could be a geograph lesson on my way to education lesson about this popular treat.;)

I just found some here in Georgia!! I miss them, I grew up with them in NY!

My favorites are the Butterscotch Krimpets and the Coffee cupcakes. I grew up with them as well and used to eat them non stop when I went home to visit but now I can find them locally so I am not so obsessed with them. They are yummy though! :goodvibes

I used to live in the No VA/DC area and you could find them there. I moved several years ago so things may have changed. I hope you find them because they are the best:love:

Out west, both here in CO and when we lived in AZ the local "Philly Cheesesteak" place stocked them, so I would check the cheesecake place by you that claims to be authentic.

I tried the peanut butter one, and my DH tried a different one, but I can't remember which. We thought they were ok, but didn't think they were the best thing ever. Figured, since we didn't grow up on them, we don't "get" them.

You need to try peanut butter kandykakes, butterscotch krimpets, and chocolate jrs! My favorites!

My Local Publix Supermarket sells them, they are brought in by a vendor.:thumbsup2

You don't have to go to NJ to get them. They are in the Philadelphia area and some part Baltimore too.

There are many different products the company makes. What exactly do you think will entice you. I love the chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing and the peanut butter kandykakes. They also have butter scotch krimpets and many other desserts.

BIG in PA~:goodvibes

I have boxes and boxes in my big freezer. YUMMY! Butterscotch and Choco PJ cakes the BEST!

Get thyself to a Wawa :)

Grew up outside Philly. They're definitely a Philly tradition! Thankfully I can get them at Tops up here! I agree PB Kandy Kakes, & Butterscotch Krimpets!

Funny story: growing up, for our birthdays my Nana used to put candles in the Krimpets :)

They used to be great...now they are terrible.

I actually have to agree. I loved Tasty Kakes like mad when I lived in Delaware and was SO happy whens someone from here was kind enough to send me some!

Well, about 6 months ago we found Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes at our local Publix and I don't know if it's cause of the distance traveled or what but all 3 boxes we have bought were the DRIEST things ever! And I remember them being so moist and delicious! :confused3

I live between Baltimore and Wilmington, DE and there are plenty of Tastycakes here. My favorite is Chocolate Junior.

Have you tried the butterscotch krimpets Rita's water ice? It is yummy.

Yep, gotta agree with this. Long time NJ resident, until about 10 years ago a Tastykake fan. Up until the late 1970s or early 1980s, they contained less than a dozen ingredients, mostly good stuff you'd bake a cake with at home, and had a relatively short shelf life of several days. Now they have more than 2 dozen ingredients, many of them preservatives and last longer and are almost as bad as Little Debbie "cakes".

I can still tolerate the jelly krimpets, but most of the other varietys are pretty bad. Wife still likes the peanut butter kandy kakes. We both agree that the icing on the cupcakes is really nasty these days. Horrible chemical taste.

The other variety of kandy kake the previous poster was seeking may have been a chocolate marshmallow type. I haven't seen it in years, not that I've been looking. Kandy Kakes used to be called "Tandy Takes".

Betty White used to do Tastykake TV commercials in the mid 1970s, advocating their fresh, wholesome ingredients, "like milk, and butter, and eggs."

For several years each time a Philadelphia Flyer hockey player scored a goal, he received a box of Tastykakes. Reggie Leach got something like 61 boxes one year.

They're still a HUGE seller in southeastern PA, southern NJ, and northern DE, so many people love them.
