Target new glitch

Maybe they could pull some of that talent from the Marketing Dept and put them to work in finance, security & customer service.
Of course they possess the same skill sets. :rolleyes2 The 20% off coupon didn't work for Disney GCs. It wasn't intended to. Get over it.

Better described as "...the week following Black Friday, Target's marketing department (not to be confused with finance or security) sucessfully offered a promotion in which they didn't lose 17% or more per transaction, necessitated by many customers' refusal realize that the RedCard and Pharmacy ongoing promotions are entirely discrete from a coupon..."

I'm glad somebody said what I was thinking. :thumbsup2

I bought Target gift cards for some teachers at school as well as for some Angel Tree kids at the high school. I hope those cards were activated properly - I would hate for those kids to be disappointed when they went to spend them, and I don't know who got them to make sure they worked OK. :(

Because of this thread I checked the ones I had purchased for this trip..leaving Saturday. Sure enough $500 worth weren't activated. I called Target and oh my lord, the wait time is unbearable. Yes, I get they are overwhelmed by all the peiople who were hacked and now the ones who don't have GC activated, but they should have everyone on deck and knowledgable on how to deal with this. A reaction to a problem is very telling about a company and I am disgusted with Target. Not only did I have to make several phone calls, wait times were ridiculous, operators are clearly not in America and do not understand what you are asking. They go from a script and cannot comprehend your true issue. I had to repeat OVER and OVER that these were DISNEY gift cards purchased at TARGET then they would ask for the number even though I'd explained there were TEN numbers for TEN cards..then after reading a number would be told..that is not a Target gift card..and on and on, being put on hold, transferred, etc for literally 2 hours. Then I finally find out this issue must be handled by a SPECIALIST who were ALL off yesterday. Knowing this was as issue they didn't think to ramp up staffing? So now I get to look forward to calling back this morning and burning up my day again..all for their error. I looked up the order for what must of been this batch and naturally there are no numbers of the cards, just qty 10. I don't have a Target near by and do all my shopping with them online. But this has really dampened my respect for them.

I wish you Good Luck today. We really shouldn't have to go through all this for something we've paid for!:rolleyes2

Wow! That would sour me on things, too! I think it will be a very long time before I order more than 1 or 2 Disney GCs from Target.com. I hope that they not only correct the problem that they created, I also hope that they do something to compensate you for the amount of time you have spent trying to resolve it.

Yours appears to be the first report of a problem with anything other than Target-branded gift cards.
Target not being aware anyone would have trouble with non-Target gift cards makes it more than reasonable that they wouldn't have specialists (not previously scheduled to work the holiday) work the holiday.
The employees answering the phones yesterday apparently knew/know how to resolve the problem Target knows about. Can't fix what ya don't know is broken.

You may have better luck if you take them into the store (with receipt if you still have it). If nothing else, maybe they would just let you return those and purchase new ones. The local manager may be better to deal with.

Really?? OK..even though I have read of others having Disney GC issues.
Here is what happened yesterday:
They were purchased online. Here is what happened yesterday:
call #1 8:00...rings then disconnected. Call#2..put on hold at 8:04 disconnects at 8:08, Call #3 8:11 put on hold, 8:15 person speaks English (you usually get India and each of these calls iinvolves starting from scratch, being misunderstood and having to jump throguh hoops to try and get transferred)I am told I must call Disney. I do so from 8:23 to 8:34..they cannot help which is what I told the person who insisted I call (at least they have better hold music. Target's is inane and still advertising Black Friday.) back to Target Call #4 put on hold at 8:39, disconnected at 8:43,. Call #5 after pushing buttons sent to wrong menu with no ability to talk to a person. Call #6 They refer me to a different number to call which turns out to deal with Target Visa issues, Call #7 8:50, Argue with representative for a time as she is looking at wrong notes on my case and still saying the help desk is closed (referring to my 2 hours on phone on New Year's Day), put on hold at 8:55, at 8:57 there is a high pitch sound and then disconnect.Call #8, put on hold at 9:00 after insisting yet again for supervisor, 9:09 connected to non english speaker who insists that to help me I need my orginal envelope the cards came in, which I don't think I have. I am out on hold for gift card team (again), disconnects at 9:22. Call #9 Argue with abrasive guy in India about what number the gift card number is and everytime I try to read it he interrupts me saying it's the wrong number and asks for a barcode which I don't have but later find out it's on the little snap top thing I had tossed but also discover the same number is at the top of the GC. Hold from 9:30 to 9:36 I have found english speaker!I tell her I found the original envelope for whatever numbers she might need from that. She is confused saying there is no way she'd ever need original mailer info. She is polite and helpful, I give her all 10 GC numbers (the bar code numbers not the GC numbers)..she puts on hold and enters them all and thinks they all activate, and to give it 4 hours until I check. It is now 10:00 am. I do so and there are still 3 cards not activated.
If you are keeping up..that is so far, 4 hours on the phone, 7 cards that now are active and 3 cards yet to go, so I begin again this morning. On those $500 worth of cards I saved $25.00. Not worth the hassle IMO. I'm self employed and do not have the time to argue with India. Target's CS is horrible on the phone and more than frustrating. By the way I leave tomorrow and doubt the cards will be workking so now need to get the $150 I'm short out of savings. I may shop at Target again, but I will NEVER buy a gift card of any kind from them again.

My store is 1 1/2 hour away, and there is no receipt with the numbers of the GC on them. The invoice and my online order just states..quantity 10 GC.

Yea, that comment about you being the first to report something like this had me shaking my head.:confused3

Believe me, I FELT the pain in every word you typed, because I've been there myself. Until you've actually gone through this with Target online customer support, you have no idea.:sad2:

You are correct, an actual Target store won't help (I've tried), because there aren't any individual identifying GC #s (or parts of) on the Target online receipt. It's a one line receipt with a generic UPC #.

Given that this thread is about in-store purchased Target gift certificates and not any other type of gift card sold by Target or purchased online, combined with the seemingly few (three?) people who experienced problems with Disney gift cards purchased online in comparison to the hundreds/thousands who buy with no issues whatsoever - well, I'm shaking my head in confusion, too.

nunzia's experience sounds miserable. Did just want to point out, though, that there's a big difference between not speaking English, and not speaking English as one's primary language.

I agree and I'm not disparaging the workers who are just trying to make a living in their country. But when you explain. EACH TIME that you are reporting a problem with DISNEY gift cards purchased AT Target and each time when they look up the number or order or whatever, and then say.. but this is not a Target gift card..and when you explain each time that you are talking about 10 $50 GC and each time they say you have $5 gift cards? and when you have to go through explanation of entire issue EACH time even though you provide the case number and when they read the case they still think it is a Target GC and don't understand the problem, and even though you state EACH time you were told to ask for a second lead and get ignored and have to start from scratch, that is not good CS. I've had this happen many times..long periods of time, frustration and mis communication with call centers and if you finally get to speak to someone in America the issue is fixed quickly, you'd think companies would realize economics and guest satifaction might be worth it to bring these jobs back to America.
And since this is STRICTLY a TARGET gift card issue thread, I'll bow out..and leave for Disney still $150.00 short.

Well, since the 2nd sentence of the OP's post was "Wonder if this effects other GC bought at Target!", and then the 2nd poster said she had 30 Disney gift cards she needed to check, this is not strictly a Target gift card thread. Don't let that poster run you off.
Have fun in Disney!

I feel the pain in every keystroke. I hope you have a fabulous trip! (and eventually get your $150 replaced from Target!) I do not find them to be a pleasant shopping experience in any way, shape or form. I know many people do, but I was burned a few times by them when they were first in my area & try to avoid. Of course, the were the only place we were able to find a Steam gift card for the birthday party DS is at right now, so I suspect I will need to be sure it is properly activated for the kid, hereby putting Target back on my irritated list. FTR, I couldn't do the above without losing my mind completely.
