Target Disney gift cards. no more stacking Rx rewards

Wow. I have a Rx card that expires today, so I literally went yesterday afternoon to purchase $3200 in Disney cards for an upcoming final payment. I was able to stack yesterday ---- talk about cutting it close!!! :scared: Because I had my little one with me, and people could have easily seen as I was checking out (the cashier was turning people away because the sheer number to scanned scared her I think), the cashier offered to get the security guy to walk me to my car. Of course to be extra safe I didn't refuse that.

When I texted hubby the receipt, he replied to ask if my ID was checked when making the purchase with my Target RedCard debit card. Nope.

Subtotal = $3200
RxRewards - $160
RedCard Savings - $152
No Tax
Total $2888.00

Most I have ever spent at Target in one trip. My yearly REDcard savings total at the bottom just skyrocketed ;)

Just curious, Why would they have asked you for your id? You have to enter your pin number... that is your "id" for a debit card. I've never been asked for ID anywhere when entering a pin number.

I get the RX reward discount every month with how many we fill and almost never have used it. I wish I had known it was an option on them before! Too bad I find out the day after it stopped. LOL

FYI I just found out that Target will no longer accept RX rewards for additional 5% off of Disney gift cards. The Redcard 5% discount still stands, but the Rx Reward won't process an additional discount at checkout. It's systematic, not discretionary, so don't bother to save up your Rx rewards anymore if you are planning a Disney Gift Card purchase. I believe it is already in place as of today. it's not just Disney cards, but also starbucks or other 3rd party gift or entertainment cards.

Bummer!!!! I was planning to use mine for another one this week! :(

Save your gift cards! I learned the hard way. We made a cruise payment with a gift card. I just got an Email they refunded me $25.30 in port fees and they did it to the one gift card I used in august to make a payment. Now I have to deal with the cash dept because i didn't keep an empty gift card so my money is somewhere in a landfill

My store today went ahead and gave me the %5 per cent off as a coupon then I used by TargetRedCard for the other 5%. Thank goodness I am done with buying giftcards. Hit my target amount for our trip next month:cool1:

And download the Disney GC app to keep track of them... I label them with a number and then do the same on the app. If a refund is done to one of them, the app would let me know which one has the balance and it will be easy to find then.

What is the app called?

I know it won't do much, but I emailed Target's corporate offices about this. I kept my Target RedCard open during all of their credit card security fiasco, and I've gone out of my way over the years to have my prescriptions filled with them. They lost my prescriptions so many times, that I started requesting hard copies of the prescriptions from my doctors instead of having them e-scripted, and any time I needed a refill, I always brought my old prescription bottle in, because they've "lost" established prescriptions (how does that happen?)...and I did this all in the name of stacking RedCard and RX discounts.

All of this to say: I've been loyal when it wasn't convenient (or maybe even prudent!) for me to do so. All in the name of Disney! Now, I no longer have any incentive to do so. Buh Bye, Target.:wave2:

I have had no problems with the Target pharmacy, but it is much more convenient for me to use the local grocery store pharmacy 5 minutes from my house, that I frequent all the time, than drive 20 minutes to the Target. The ONLY reason I use Target pharmacy is for the stacked rewards. And the main thing I used stacked rewards for is DGCs. I mean, the extra 5% on a normal one time purchase of groceries, clothes etc, is only about 5$ (if I spend $100). But when I have the extra 5% I will usually by $200 or more in DGCs "just because". And of course, when I'm getting ready to pay for a cruise I will buy a couple thousand.

So, I think I will transfer my pxs back to my local grocery store...

I just received an email from Sam's Club reminding me as part of their membership, you can order discounted gift cards online.

I went to their website and lo and behold :cool1: they had Disney $50 gift cards priced at $48.88.

I checked shipping options( for my zip code), and it is free to ship standard(4 day), premium (3 day) $1.29 and 2 day express($7.47).

Has anyone ever done this ? Would like some feedback on this.

You can also check in-club. Some clubs carry them in store.

Savings-wise, the Target Red Card is a little bit better deal (2.50 off 50 v. 1.12 at Sams) but any savings is better than none.

Was at my Sam's yesterday and they didn't have any gift cards at all. I know I saw a lot of them during the holidays and they had higher amount DGC at the time.. don't remember what the discount was though. I did find the $50 DGC at my Target yesterday so started my stash! B2B2B cruises in May/June 2015 so I've got plenty of time to stock up where ever the deals may be!

Good idea! I will do the same. After all the Red Card and credit card hassle (because I used both shopping for Christmas!). Plus Target Pharmacy isn't the most convenient!

I went to my sam's club today in NJ and they had a bundle of 3 $50 gift cards for $142.98 so I figured that's the same 5% discount I would get with my Target red card plus that will get me discover card points.
so I purchased my disney gift cards there.

If someone want to still try this have the manager call the Red Card support team. They will likely allow the override. I have good luck with them so far.

I work for Target. I just found out about this the day before it went into effect on 3/28 (corporate kept it under wraps). This is a company wide thing (will not be overridden) . The memo stated that all 3rd party cards are effected. I am just as disappointed as everyone else because they also took away the team member discount on cards (another 10%) that I was getting.

I think they all have them. I also see that they have a $50 one online. I haven't done it yet, but I can't imagine there's any reason you can't buy one and get the 5% discount and free shipping through the web site, too. Has anyone tried that? Too bad about the Rx rewards ending!
I've bought Disney gifts cards from Target online using my red card. Yes free shipping applies. However, when I went to use the cards, they had not been activated. Hopefully this was just a fluke, and not the norm for Target. I was able to call target, and have the cards activated over the phone. But it gave me a real scare when my TA called me saying all 4 cards had been declined.

Hooray! Thanks for the tip. My DH went and grabbed a pack. Nearly the same price as Target and like you, I'm excited to get the credit card points as well. :cool1:

All I can say is bummer :-( will all the CC trouble and layoffs they have been through recently. Good you still have your job. Kind of a bummer because I pumped many thousands through this a year.
