Target announced today Its expanding its tie-up with Disney, Target will also be opening a small-format store right near the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, in 2021,
This Oct. 4, ahead of the holiday season, 25 Disney stores will open at certain Target stores across the country, in cities including Philadelphia, Denver and Chicago. (See a full list of those locations below.) Forty additional Disney locations — selling toys, games, apparel and more — are planned to open by October 2020, the big-box retailer said. It will also be launching a Disney-themed experience on its website, beginning Sunday, where shoppers can find products from the Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars brands, among others.

I saw this on the Target app when I opened it for cartwheel. Dh wondered how those Disney stores inside target will affect the licensed Disney/marvel/Star Wars products already being sold in those stores. I shouldn’t think that having a Disney store inside would mean they have to get rid of the licensed stuff they’re already selling.

Here is a list of the first 25 stores:

It seemed like these Disney Stores inside Target would offer some of the exclusive items only available from the Disney store in addition to the items already carried.

I'm surprised they don't have at least one of those opening 25 in the New England area. Closest to me in RI is in PA!

Yeah, it’s surprising the locations. Weird that there is nothing close to NYC. I think it’s an interesting idea, but don’t see it being overly successful. I think the novelty will wear off. During the presentation they talked of the Instagram factor these store would present. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Are they only after photographic/social media presence or an actual shopping experience?

Perhaps Disney is trying to expand their reach with various product tie-ups. Our local grocery store now sells a number of products with the Disney logo you wouldn't generally associate with Disney, food products like cookies/crackers.....etc. Maybe marketing thinks these products will sell better if the Disney name is attached to them.

Very interesting. There are a few Disney stores in the malls in San Jose, and a Disney Outlet about 30 minutes away in Gilroy. So what would be the benefit of going to Target over those? Maybe just that customers would be going to Target anyway? I know I don't go to the mall until I have to. But I go to Target for essentials, so I'll be right there where I can see all the fun Disney stuff just waiting to be bought. That's really the best reasoning I can come up with.
