Target cashier stole our gift card!

the new thing in the philly area..... people(customers and employees) are writing down the numbers on the back of a bunch of gift cards...and then putting them back on the shelf.....then they call the number to check the balances...to see when other people purchase them....then they order stuff online. my manager was warning us of this the other night.

That is unbelievable :furious:

Yet another reason to always keep receipts. After working retail in college I never throw away a receipt. You never know when you might need it.

Mono-Rail -- Is your husband rich or is he reluctant to confront? I would have been in there in a flash.
:lmao: No, we are far from rich! He is just reluctant to confront. He's the type of person who is nice to a fault. :guilty:

That $20 bucks will buy the twins' a two weeks supply of Target diapers! :teeth:

I'm like the little paperboy in that John Cusack 80's movie Better Off Dead. The little paperboy chased him around everywhere wanting the $2 payment his family owed. I want my $2! Give me my $2! Where's my $2?! :lmao:

What about the toll taker who shorts maybe 2-3 customers an hour a dollar of their change? Over time, that adds up to alot !!

My sister told me she heard in the news recently that people are also writing down the gift card numbers from the cards you find in the stores, and then waiting for someone to activate them. Then they can spend them online.

I have sort of a criminal mind (but wouldn't use it in that way) and had actually wondered about the possiblity of this before she told me. They said to make sure that if you buy a gift card that is stuck to a piece of cardboard that it is still stuck where the number isn't visible.

I had a siimilar experience at Target with the deals where you buy certain items and get a gift card free. The cashier rang it up and then put the card in the garbage under her register. I saw it happen and made her give it to me, but she argued with me about it and showed me on my receipt that she rang up the gift card and then the charge for the gift card was removed. I said, yes, that's because the gift card is free! She was insistent that the card had no value and was not going to give it to me. Finally I said, just give me the card and if there is no money on it, then that'll be my problem.

I don't think she was trying to steal the card. I'm pretty sure she just did not understand how it worked.

You know I could never be a theif Im not that smart. :confused3

Why would this person risk her job, and possible future jobs for $20.00? I just dont understand it.

Im glad that target was able to get your gift card replaced. It has been sooooo long since I was at target last, Ive almost forgot what it was like. :sad1:

:thumbsup2 I've worked retail and part of our training at that time was to review tapes of thefts so we knew what to look for. 1/2 the time I would be there with my mouth gapped open going -- DOH, I would have NEVER even had some of the stuff they did cross my mind to do, it was beyond my comprehension. I knew the obvious smash & grab or distract you but the other stuff just made me decide I was definitely not smart enough for a life of crime. :rotfl2:

I'm glad Target took care of it.

the toll operators in our area wear the most uncomfortable looking 'uniforms' (skin tight)-i asked once why they did'nt get better fitting ones. i was told it's a deterant to theft-tight clothes with no pockets cuts down on the chance of theft-and security cameras are real quick to catch someone putting their hands down their shirt or pants. to prevent using something else to transport money they can't take anything into their toll booth-no cans, cups, bottles.

:lmao: :lmao: OH that just cracked me up!! I STILL will use that saying to this day for things. My kids just look at me like I'm bizarre but if we are talking money or something, I will go to DH -- I want my $2!!! Give me my $2!!! The amount is never $2 so my kids really do think I've lost my mind.

I just checked three gift cards I bought yesterday, all have those things on the back that you have to scratch off the number in order to use them. All three cards had the scratch area intact, so no one else can use the cards I purchased! But for now on I'll grab cards from the back of the stack, and make sure the scratch areas are intact before buying them.

People kill me! Isn't it easier to just work at a job and earn your money being honest that living in fear that you are going to be caught stealing!

This will be my third christmas working at target and it amazes me that there are at least two or three workers that will steal. Hello when we go through orenation (sp) the AP person tells you they will arrest you and press charges even if it is for a pack of gum. but yet they still do it. and then they are crying when they get arrested and hauled out.

I used to work for a retail store that had a pretty lax return policy. If you had a receipt you could get a full refund to method of payment, no receipt would get you a store credit for the current price of the item. Well, one of the cashiers would grab an item off the shelf and "return" it and issue herself a gift card. She would also buy items from our location with her employee discount (using those stolen gift cards) and return the item to another location where they didn't she was an employee and receive the full price in return. I told the manager everything I knew and the "manager" told me to quit the "back biting" and that we were "just a bunch of immature high school girls". Well, low and behold, did they not catch her a couple months after I quit and have her arrested. I should go back there and get my apology one of these days....

Got to the point at my old job that they made everyone watch a "Do NOT steal" video.

The manager gave me a $20 gift card as an apology, and the corporate gift card dept is also mailing us an additional $20 gift card. The manager told me that they have had problems in the past of cashiers stealing gift cards. :sad2:

So, the manager gave you the $20 you were supposed to have as an apology?

Target's corporate is mailing us a $20 gift card to replace the stolen one, and the manager of the store where the cashier actually stole the card gave me a $20 GC this morning as an apology. The cashier stole $20 but Target is replacing it with $40 worth of GC's. :goodvibes
