I was at target today buying disney gift cards when a manager walked past, saw my bundle and my red card and told me it no longer worked. I mentioned I had been in yesterday doing the same thing and it worked and she said disney has been sending letters to target and "it's no
Longer going to be honored". Take that for what you will, and understand that I am totally relating a rumor, but has anyone else heard this/experienced this? Any target employees able to enlighten us?

No idea but I'm certainly glad I bought the last 2 cards I needed for our December trip yesterday. I can't see how Disney would have an issue though. They would get the same amount of $ regardless of how much I pay Target for the cards.

Did the discount go through for you today? I wonder if the manager is just behind the times and is thinking about the 5% Pharmacy Rewards discount (which was pulled for all GCs, not just Disney, and had nothing to do with any cease and desist letters from Disney).

In all honesty, I don't know why Disney would care what Target charges for their $50 Disney GCs as long as Disney is getting the amount that they want for them from Target. The last time that I checked, Disney does not exercise the kind of price controls that Apple does.

It will be interesting to see if this plays out the way that manager says. So far, this has not been my experience. But my last 3 Disney GC purchases have been online at Target .com.

If ordering on-line it is still showing the 5% discount. It seems like there is a post ever week that target has stopped allowing the 5% discount.

I think it varies by area. DH is a Team Leader for Target and he told me all of the stores in our area stopped doing it. He tried to purchase one the other day with his Target Card and the 5% did not come off the giftcard.

So, did you buy the gift cards? Did the 5% come off your total? Or, did you take the manager at her word and put the gift cards back on the shelf?

I'm buying them online with no issues whatsoever. The only problem is I'm limited to buying them three at a time.

Does that apply to ALL non-Target GCs or just the Disney GCs? I'm wondering if all of the problems from last year's holiday coupons (was it a $10 Target GC wys $50?) prompted them to do this before the holiday shopping season goes into full swing? There were people who were rolling that coupon over and over again to get all kinds of cheap GCs at Target the year before and they were really PO'd when they couldn't use it last year as well.

I guess we will see how this all plays out. But just in case, I placed another order for 3 more Disney GCs using a Target GC and my REDCard as the default method of payment at Target .com a few minutes ago and it went through with no problem (so far).

Its not going to go away. Target really doesn't care as they get a higher margin off gift cards than 5%. I believe its closer to 10% that they get. So they will still make money.

Gift cards have 0 value until they are activated and costs cents to make and stock. You can stock hundreds of them in the space of one gallon of milk for example and the value of them never changes unlike a lot of other products in the store.

The best part for target is when you go into the store your going to buy more than just gift cards the majority of the time .

They might take away the 5% online unless the red card is actually used. That I could see them doing. But then again maybe not if they are still profiting

I just bought $1500 worth of Disney gift Cards in store yesterday with my Redcard and saved $75 (5%).

I think employees are clueless. Cashier tried to tell me that I couldn't buy that many -- there was a limit. I said "Nope, just did it last month". He shrugged, rang them up, and it went through. He just said "I guess you were right. ". ...yep... I guess I was.

Yea, I had a manager come over and tell me the 5% didn't work on gift cards because the laws just changed! Really???:confused3
Wrong!

so true. anyways giant eagle grocery store offers a better deal for me its .10-.20 off a gallon of gas up to 30 gallons for every $50 gc purchase.

....she said disney has been sending letters to target and "it's no Longer going to be honored"...

Why would Disney care? It's not like Target is paying them less because you get the discount. The discount comes off Target's end. Like other posters have basically said, clueless workers.

I did buy and it worked great, and I
Will continue every day until
It no longer works! Hopefully I can finish getting what I need for my trip before (if it even happens!)

Yea, I thought it sounded weird. That's why I come here;). You guys always know first and fastest! I'll head back out Monday and buy another stack, my debit card limits me to 1250-1500 per day (can't remember which) so I only need a few more trips to pay it off.

if you want to save a bit more try and use a credit card to buy target gift cards. Discover might be 5% off and capital one is 2% off. Then use the target gift cards to buy Disney gift cards online and have your redcard linked and you will get another 5% off.

I bought $200 worth today and got my 5% off with no trouble at all.
