Just interested in what tapering you do before the Full or Goofy.

How far in advance do you start tapering? When is your last speed workout?

I have not trained nearly as much as I would have liked. Because of it, my last long run will be tomorrow (20 miles) and the following Sunday, I will do 13. I have no other goal than to finish the goofy so I think my weak training will be just barely good enough.

Mine and my ladies training is FUBAR also. The LTO to the max as been a constant companion. Rain, cold, injuries, her dental work self distructing.... We have managed 2 20 milers and several shorter 10 to 18 milers are all we were able to get in. We were planning on some 22 milers and a lot more of the middle distances.

We will at least hit the start uninjured if a little under trained. We are doing a 10 miler and maybe a 6 miler next week along with a few 2 to 4 milers. The last week we will do an hour of walking mon and tues then just the parks till the race weekend.

I'm somewhat following the Marathoning for Mortals W/R marathon plan. This weekend calls for a 10 mile LR followed by a 6 mile LR next weekend with a few shorter runs in between. I have not followed this plan like I should have as I have not been able to do all the shorter and long runs. LTO.

The plan calls for me to do a W3/R2 interval for the marathon but in reality I'll probably do a W4/R1 for as long as I can and then just walk. My goal is to just finish and get the medal. :teeth:

My last LONG distance was Sunday at 18 miles. I'm a little light on mileage anyway this year, I didn't push as hard hoping to keep the injury bug away. I decided healthy > mileage. So my legs will be screaming by mile 20 on Sunday but at least I won't be starting in the tank like I did last year which was pure torture! LOL. Anyway...I'm doing 5 today and 10 tomorrow. Will continue to run during the week and will continue my normal 6 hours of XT each week too to keep everything going and start strong I hope. I am terrified...but I have to trust the plan that was put together for me...main goal was to get to the start healthy. I won't have some screamin' fast time....but since it's Goofy I'm really hoping to simply finish with a respectable time. :thumbsup2

It's interesting on how everyone has a different plan. I always feel like I am losing my peak by tapering. Most books/sites say no speed work or LR for the last two weeks.

That sounds like good advice since the main point is to start healthy. Great idea....Health>miles.

I'm not really planning a taper this year. I will get to the line relatively healthy, but very much undertrained. LTO way too much since August.
(I'll have to prioritize better before the next race. Don't these folks know I'm trying for a Goofy?!)

Seriously, though, many obstacles this year. I'm just happy to be able to get to the starting line healthy and with peace of mind. My goal is to finish both races to get those medals. If I can break 3 hours in the 1/2, I'd be thrilled. The full is just "get me to the end!". I'll probably walk most of the full.

I did 5 miles yesterday and 8 today. Shooting for 10 on Monday, then 13 on Wed. My last long r/w will be next Saturday, 12-15 miles, depending on my schedule. After that just light xt as I will be leaving for WDW on Wed. morning.

I'm focusing on getting more middle distance training in, as I just can't find the time for a 4-5 hour training run. If I can manage the 10-15 milers, I'll suck it up to finish the marathon (even if I have to crawl).
