Is it safe to drink tap water in the USA or should we only drink water from bottles?

Water is fine in the US. I actually prefer the taste to UK water. You may find that u get a bit of a funny tummy to start whilst it gets used to the change but that's it. Never had issues. Some people do prefer to just get bottled water though.

As pp said its fine to drink but imo it has to be cold, V.cold, for it to taste ok..if you are in Disney the bottled water they sell is Dasani and that is only filtered tap water anyway and I think that tastes worse! :)

Safe, yes. Would I? No. Agree with other poster about Disney bottled water. That's vile too. I order it in from Garden Grocer to get a massive stock of something decent.

Safe, but tastes and smells so funny that I buy bottled water from publix

I guess we just have to try and see what tastes best. Thank you everybody for your help.

Sorry...just had to chime in...

Before moving to Orlando in 2004, I grew up with fluoridized water in Virginia. I remember that water was a lot better tasting than the water in Orlando. One of the problems with the water in Orlando is it's hard water. I don't know if that makes a difference in the taste but I can't imagine it doesn't. Also...bread products (donuts, bread, pizza crusts, etc.) don't taste as good as they did back home.

Anyway...the water here really isn't good so buy bottled if you're a big water drinker...I'm not.

The water is perfectly safe to drink but it does taste different. My wife is from the US (I am from the UK and we live in the UK) and when I was living in the US I couldn't drink the tap water. As other posters have said, it's not a safety issue but one of taste. I'd suggest bottled water.

Yes the water in Florida is safe but it has a bad taste to it. I think it is from too much sulfer in the water. Even when you add flavored powder to it the nasty taste comes through. Here in PA the water is much better and tastes how water should taste. It doesn't really have a taste. lol Our city water does not have any fluroide in it that many places in the country add for kid's teeth. Fluroide in the water varies based on the city/town and water company though. They do chlorinate our water to treat it though. There are actually many reports of fluroide not being healthy and many countries and even some cities in the US have banned the use of it.
Much of the water that is found in the western world is safe and there really is not a need for bottled water. As a matter of fact that bottled water is still tap water many times. Even some of it that is labeled as spring water. Some say that they filter it in different ways but most of the time they do not do anything to it at all. They have done news reports here about it. Also my husband works for a company that sells conveyor systems to the bottlers so he has some first hand knowledge.

When I was in Europe in 1998 I drank the water without any problems despite being told not to. Even the water in Venice, Italy which was supposed to be the worst to drink due to the sewage system there. Despite what I had heard and read the water there did not come out discolored in any way. I was a high school student that raised the money to go and I could not afford to spend 3-4.00 on a bottle of water every time I wanted a drink. So if I wanted a drink I didn't have much of a choice once the juice packs I brought were gone.

Hiya,

We took a "Bobble" water bottle with us this time around. it had a filter simmilar to the jug filters. We would take the empty bottles from our drinks the previous day and fill with "filtered" water and noticed a HUGE improvement on taste.

However NOTHING helped to give me a good cuppa. I left my travel kettle at home this time around, but regretted that. Took my own twinnings teabags, tried their tea, tried different milks, tried different cups, NOTHING helped. Now I am back in the UK and am having rouble making a great cuppa here too. Mybe I hav lost the ability to make good tea!

100% agree.
We bought a few gallon bottles of water from Garden Grocer and just kept filling up our empty water bottles with that.It worked out a heck of a lot cheaper too because you will go through water like water:thumbsup2

Can't comment on taste but I love what it goes to my hair !

We start off by buying a case of 24 bottles from publix, then we refill these bottles from gallon bottles, we usually freeze them too - nothing better than a nice iced water when it's 30 odd degrees! :beach:

I have tried drinking the water but just can't get past that odd taste! :scared:
