Tap Water at OKW - Drinkable?

I live in Western NY and our tap water is very good and drinkable without filtering.

I was wondering how the water will be at OKW. My kids are young (3 1/2 and 1 1/2, so I wouldn't want to try the water if it could upset their stomachs.)

If it doesn't taste good out of the tap, does freezing it help? If you mix in Crystal lite or something, is it safe to drink?

Thanks.:sulley:

The water tastes bad and it does seem to upset our stomachs. We drink bottled water and it seems to help with the stomach problems we get on every WDW trip. I've also boiled the water with no problems. I think it's safe to drink. I just think you get used to what you drink and the different water can upset your stomach. I bring an electric tea pot for making instant coffee, hot tea and taking medicine (after it has cooled down).

We've never had any problems but then I guess we don't have highly sensitive stomachs. Not what we're used to, true, but not unpleasant.

We are fine with drinking any tap water at WDW. The one time we stayed off property I was bothered by the water, but only for one day. I was fine as soon as I switched to bottled water.

I don't know if there is a difference in the water source, but this was my experience.

We don't have sensitive stomachs either, so I am not sure if our opinion helps...but we had no problem drinking the tap water at OKW. I do think it tastes better cold (but that is true of water in general if you ask me).

Isn't water funny--nothing tastes as good to me as the cold, cold water from the well at my mom's house (where I grew up).

I dislike the water at most of the WDW resorts but for some reason both OKW and SSR tap waters are fine for me to drink.

Without sounding rude, do you really think Disney would have unsafe water? My grandchildren had no problems drinking it.

We drink the tap water all the time at WDW. It is much better tasting than our tap at home, where we have to use a filter.

We use a Britta pitcher at WDW. We keep it in our OL. I think that is just a personal thing with us. When we are in restaurants at WDW however, tap is fine for us.

We have had gastro intestinal issues from drinking water different than our home water(western NY well)not just at WDW but most places we travel. I have also heard that WDW has an unusually high sulfur content in its water. We drink bottled water, preferably spring water, when we travel. We may just have sensitive systems ( every community may have different chemicals in the water)but why take a chance?

we always buy bottled water when we are in Florida, including Disney. I've had too many trips to my Grandmothers house in FL where there were always warnings about the water and everyone was told to boil it before use! Thats too scary for me, so we just buy it.

The water is safe to drink, but is very hard. It is the hardness of the water that makes taking a shower interesting.

We find the water at most WDW resorts where we've stayed is undrinkable. So I was surprised to find the water at OKW was pretty good. I had no problem drinking it. My DH insisted on using bottled water when making coffee but otherwise I drank tap water and thought it was fine. I was pleasantly surprised.

The water on our latest stay at AKV was OK, too. Makes me wonder if WDW has taken steps to improve the taste of the water.

Yes the water is safe. And most people find it drinkable. I need to have it very, very cold. To me it tastes of minerals but then so does the local Florida bottled spring water (Zephyrhills).
I grew up in NYC drinking really great tasting water and hve been spoiled ever since. Here on Long Island I drink Poland Spring - lovely taste because our local water tastes awful (well water)

I'm the family member who makes the ice, cracks the ice, refills the ice cube trays and fills the family 1/2 gallon "park water" bottle. As such, I've seen my fair share of good and bad WDW water over the last few years.

The water at OKW and SSR isn't that bad. It has a varied chemical treatment taste to it (seemed to vary, day to day) but all in all it's not "swampy" or nasty like some WDW water is.

We always bring some bottled water with us.

Last year at Fort Wilderness cabins we brought some Dunkin Donuts coffee and we made it with the tap water. Oddly enough, it was better than at home with better tasting water, a LOT better.

There must be some chemical reaction between the coffee beans and the sulfur, or something. Anyway it makes one heck of a good cup of coffee.

My though also, I'm sure good ole Roy made sure that the available tap water within the park would be good.

Having been to countries where you really could not safely drink the tap water, I find this whole thread a bit disturbing. The water in the US except under unusual situations is safe to drink. You might not like the taste, but it is generally safe to drink.

Tap water in this country is tested on a regular basis for all sorts of impurities. If you check with your local water supplier you can get their current report on their water tests (as required by law). I know our water supplier includes a copy of their report with the water bill at least once a year and it is available online.

Here is the link for DisneyWorld :

You might want to compare it to your local one.

I've been thinking the same thing and wondering why anyone would think it was unsafe.

On the other hand, bottled water is unregulated. I know of a spring where one bottler gets their water - it didn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. I just drink tap unless I need a container to carry in and the best way to get it at the time is bottled water. I'm not saying bottled water is unsafe - just that it comes from the same place as the rest of the water.
